From Stage to Screen to Live Concert
Many have seen the rise of One Direction in the glory days of the X-Factor. They all started out as solo singers looking for a big break. The judges deemed them decent but not good enough to win on their own.

I admit that I was and still effectively am a Deadheaded individual. (Conjuring an image of "deadheading" dead roses on the bush so that their rotting petal flesh fragments can feed the soil that feeds the plant.)

What a response! Okay, me and my friend were co-incidentally talking about the topic of weight earlier this morning. Why is it that as a people, especially as Nigerians, we’re always very quick to call out and criticize people for putting on weight, while at the same time giving them fatty foods like puff puff and meatpie in parties, and if they refuse to eat it, we’ll still be the ones to say “Ah ah, why you no dey chop?”

Something ComplicatedPublished 4 years ago in Beat"Same Love" by Macklemore & Ryan feat. Mary Lambert
As part of an essay for my Music Appreciation class in college, I decided to pick a song that I enjoy listening to called “Same Love” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert. It’s a song that has a serious and important message that discussions about basic rights and having equality for everyone. Even ‘til this day, America is divided because of the belief that we have. Sadly, some of us think that it is wrong to fall in love with the same-sex. Even though, in life, we can not pick who we fall in love with, what the color of our skin will be, and whether we will be born a girl or a boy. It makes us question our society and how our culture views humans based on labels and ridiculous stereotypes. Instead of looking at each other and saying that people are just like me, a human… we view others on stupid reasons like the color of their skin or their sexual orientation.

It was 1984. Mama and I were on our way to spend some quality time together at the movies. We had originally planned to see the movie “Bambi,” but I had a master plan. My 7 year old mind did not want to see an animation about a deer; I had already had my weekly cartoon fill on Transfomers, Smurfs, and He-Man. Samantha wanted to see a grown up movie, her first, about a man in purple. He wore ruffled shirts and had big, curly hair like the ladies at the beauty shop. As mama drove, I imagined our brown Firebird to be a “Little Red Corvette.” However, unlike in the song, my mom did not drive much too fast. Looking back, she was more like “The Slow and the Curious.” We cruised to the small AMC theater tucked in the back of our local Kmart and parked in front. I had rehearsed my devious, temper tantrum scheme in case mama said no to seeing the movie. As we approached the ticket booth and saw the showtimes, she began to request two tickets to Bambi when I nervously exclaimed, “Ma, I want to see THAT movie!” I pointed to the picture of the man with an intense stare on a motorcycle shrouded in semi-darkness.

I was 8 years old when I saw him singing on the tv. In my head, he looked like an angel and sang like one too. His smile was one you could not ignore and his eyes were piercing blue, and still are, and that’s to show how close to the screen I was.
