This Not is for Me
My earliest recollection of Valentine's Day was a surprise card through the post. Who could this be? Nine year old me was thrilled someone had gone out of their way to notice me. Years later I realised it had been a card from a well intentioned parent. A sweet touch and a must for any child when they are growing up.
Tammy WakefordPublished 3 years ago in BeatUnderrated Love/Hate songs for your most complicated lovers
We all got that binding, repressed teenage urge to bust a pipe whenever you hear the lyrics, "I hate everything about you, why do I love you?" is on the radio by Three Days Grace, but why is that?
Melissa IngoldsbyPublished 3 years ago in BeatThe greatest vocalist of the 80s
I don't know if you ever listen to music with the window open but it does test your faith in the songs you listen to. I was sitting happily in the bath, listening to a playlist of random 80s songs when on came 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' by Tight Fit. Unable (or unwilling) to get out of the hot water to find my phone and skip the track, I listened through, half-hoping there was nobody passing outside who would judge my taste in music and half-loving the song which was a massive number 1 hit in 1982.
Peter NuttallPublished 3 years ago in BeatThe Genius of Psycho's Score
One of the most important aspects of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Psycho is Bernard Hermann’s tense score. In addition to Hitchcock’s brilliant direction that feels meticulous in every shot, the music serves to convey the emotions of the characters, the terror in their eyes, their deepest fears, and their determination to learn more about the strange events at Bates Motel. At its most prominent, the score allows us to get inside the head of Marion Crane, feel the weight of the actions of Norman’s mother, and accentuate the actions of the characters with the help of the editing.

Jamie LammersPublished 3 years ago in BeatCopy Right?
This is essentially a diatribe on how copyright law is applied when you share on social media platforms such as YouTube , Facebook and Instagram . As yet I have had no issues with Twitter. The thing is I understand if the artist is not getting any benefit for my share , or I am being disrespectful, but where I can I share a link to buy the CD or digital copy.
Mike Singleton - MikeydredPublished 3 years ago in BeatDoes Anyone Remember Megan McCauley?
I first saw Megan McCauley grace a stage in Indianapolis in the early 2000's, after she had released two songs for superhero soundtracks: Die for You on the Fantastic Four soundtrack in 2005, along with Wonder for the Elektra soundtrack that same year. I was attending X-Fest as my first "big" concert experience the summer before I turned nineteen, hanging with my father and his wife (which was actually a lot cooler than it sounds.) We picked up some commemorative t-shirts that listed all of the artists intending to perform, and I noted the names that didn't sound familiar as we headed toward the second stage.
Dani BananiPublished 3 years ago in BeatLive Like You Are Dying
The other day, while driving my truck through west Texas, I tuned my radio dial to the only station that it was able to receive. It was a local country music station. At first thought, some city dwellers I know may have rather turn off their stereo completely than to embrace the sounds of country music. However, this city born, New Orleans native felt quite differently than most others I know. Being one who appreciates the genre, I was immediately drawn in by the sounds of country music superstar Tim Mcgraw. The song that was playing was one of my favorites, "Live Like You Were Dying." I’ve listened to this song many times before, but today it had a different impact upon me.
Hello May, Beltane and Jordan Reyne
It is an incredibly bright and sunny morning, though as I am writing this I am not sure what the temperature is like outside , although I will know by the time I finish this. I have been out and though it is clouding over it seems that winter has truly been banished and spring is moving towards summer, so weatherwise we are in a more clement atmosphere a;lthough there are still some dark clouds overhead , but as long as they wait until tonight before drenching us that will be fine.
Mike Singleton - MikeydredPublished 3 years ago in BeatWe Were The Boys
Liverpool in the swinging sixties. I have to say, my childhood was not an easy one. I was an undernourished and introverted child born and brought up on the wrong side of the tracks. I was bullied and beaten on a frequent basis at home, at school and out on the streets. I was once attacked by a group of figteen sixteen year old thugs who left me for dead. I did not expect to live a very long life and at times neither did I desire one. There was very little joy in my young life apart from music and football, I was fanatic about both. And it was those two things that sustained me during some of my most difficult days.
