Miss Tina changed my life.
Strange Objects I should start at the beginning or would it be better to start at some point beyond that. My mind can't stop to make a decision because it is going through thoughts faster than I can keep up. Oh, what am I thinking about this time? Yeah, I was going to tell you how a visit from Ms. Tina rewrote my life story. Her arrival came during the preparations to get our house ready to be dazzling enough to not go backwards in our bank account when it was sold to the next family to own it.

His Ship, My Ship!
The Beginning I met my spouse in March of 1993 in Charleston, South Carolina, We were both sailors in the U.S. Navy and attached to the Naval base there. He was there for training and I was on my 3 year shore duty tour. What the future would hold was not on either of our minds. None of that really mattered to us since we were madly in love. But for us, life would become more interesting and long distances from each other. However there was two big problems that neither of us considered. The first was the amount of time spent at sea and the other was "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

Maybe a Sign
Out For a Walk The doctor lets me know every visit that I need to get some sun and exercise. I am not a big fan of going to a gym or using that stay at home fitness stuff on the game console. So I occasionally venture outside and go for a walk. The doctor tells me that I need to do those things because in 2003 I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S). Those are big fancy words that say my immune system attacks the soft material between the joints in my spine causing it to fuse together. The doctor and myself know that by sitting around doing nothing I make it worse on myself. Lack of movement makes the joints more stiff and harder to move. The condition is a genetic autoimmune disease, meaning you have to carry the HLA-B27 gene and at some point come in contact with some type of trigger that activates the gene. It usually starts out in the Sacroiliac Joint which is basically your tailbone or the part that joins your hips to your spine. It feels like a lower back ache in the beginning, but during flare ups I just do not know how to describe it. So what does all of that have to do with signs?

Make your own!
The start of learning Since I became disabled and had to retire early due to rheumatoid arthritis I seem to have an abundance of time. To help keep the arthritis at bay and my hands working, I started creating different art projects. I started with origami and paper flowers after I was given a beginner's origami kit. I became fairly good at flowers and one of my pieces was volunteered to be an entry for the State Fair of Texas. That is a different story for another day, but the result was a First Place Blue Ribbon. The next year as I was trying to find floral inspiration for that years state fair entry a strange thing happened. I had quite a few one-inch square pieces of black and white paper cut for some reason. The paper was laying out on my desk in the basic shape of a checkerboard. So I decided to take a break from making flowers to make a quick checkerboard, little did I realize at the time that it would lead to making a chess set.
