Red plastic on the tables in a school gym, my baby cousin in a pink tutu and cowgirl boots running around with the other kids. Photos in the hallway in frames sat on lace cloths. Ceramic blue jays. People whispering in corners. Clinking in the kitchen off to the side.

The hairs that stand on end, the sharpness on your skin that is impossible to ignore and forces your head and then your body to turn in the direction it comes from - involuntary, without your input.

Fibers
It is the last Thursday before Christmas, and tonight, we shall see who will still be here come then. Frau Perchta will come, a witch of cleanliness that chooses our fates each winter. The things which we can do to please her are to have all of our fiber spinning finished before year’s end, and a spotless home and porridge when she arrives.
