Tangektron
A Touch Containing Electricity
They say your limbic system can rescue your body before the conscious thought of DANGER has even entered your mind.
The hairs that stand on end, the sharpness on your skin that is impossible to ignore and forces your head and then your body to turn in the direction it comes from - involuntary, without your input.
But perhaps not everything that lights the most ancient parts of ourselves this way is supposed to be run from. Indeed, it is your system yelling, "Look! Listen! Behold."
When his hand brushed against mine, for example. The spark swirled through the pattern of my fingerprint and exploded through my wrist, traveled up the same vein the ancient Egyptians swore connected love to the heart, and settled as steadily as a ship on a stormy sea within my chest.
Tangektron. When a touch feels as though it contains electricity, it is impossible to ignore. You must respond. Perhaps, at first, you wish to pull away, like when a metal door handle shocks you. It's got your attention now.
But I look into his eyes, and there's no danger. Only warmth. An inviting glow.
Maybe this is what my heart is telling me.
Look, listen, behold; we've just made contact with the other half of our soul.

I am a graduate student studying anthropology and have been writing creatively for almost 20 years. I love new takes on alternative history, especially when there are fantasy or supernatural elements included.

I've felt this before when his hand brushed against mine. I loved your word and story!
