75 Questions for Fantasy Characters

This is my list of questions aimed at fantasy characters, though I'm certain characters from just about any genre could answer many of these as well!

1. Are they royalty? If yes, what is their rank and what are some of their responsibilities? If not, what do they think of the royal class, if there is one?

2. How careful are they with their health?

3. Do they drink or smoke?

4. Are there any unique drugs in your world that this character partakes in?

5. What is their favorite season and why?

6. Can they use any weapons?

7. How do they celebrate their birthday?

8. Can they ride a horse or equivalent animal in your world?

9. What is a song you associate with them? It doesn't have to be “on theme” for the world.

10. Favorite meal? Do they know how to make it or does someone else cook for them?

11. Are they allergic to anything? How is it handled if they come into contact with their allergen?

12. Do they have a favorite game? Is it popular in your world?

13. Does their gender align with the binary set in your world? How do they present?

14. What is a unique skill they have that is not common in your world? If no unique skill to their world, what about *our* world? Do they use magic?

15. What do they do with downtime?

16. What are some colors that you associate with them? Are these colors particularly significant in your world?

17. They've been injured; do they go to the doctor or handle it themselves?

18. Do they have a companion animal? A familiar?

19. Do they have any superstitions? Is it common or uncommon for where they live?

20. What is their bedtime ritual?

21. Do you associate them with any animals?

22. Is their word good? Do they keep a promise no matter what?

23. What would they do if they came across an injured animal?

24. Do they have an education? Is it important to them?

25. Are their parents living? How about grandparents?

26. What weather do they function best in? Is that weather common where they live?

27. Can they swim? If not, do they learn to swim at any point?

28. Do they have a nickname? Who gets to use it?

29. Is their hair or eye color unusual for the world?

30. Any scars or tattoos?

31. How charismatic are they? Can they often talk themselves out of trouble?

32. Are they competitive? If they are, what brings out their competitive side?

33. Do they have any pet peeves?

34. Do they have any siblings? What is their relationship like?

35. Found family or bio family? Both, neither?

36. Are they a good friend to have around?

37. What is their favorite childhood memory?

38. What is a goal that they have?

39. Are they single or in a relationship? How is that relationship going if they have one? Do they want a relationship if they’re single?

40. When was the last time they were crushed with disappointment?

41. Have they ever saved anyone’s life, or has someone saved their life?

42. What is their take on love at first sight?

43. Are they suspicious of strangers?

44. What do they generally do for money?

45. Are they spenders or savers when it comes to their money?

46. Do they know how to sew or mend their own clothes?

47. Do they prefer to trade or pay directly for items they need? Or are they more of a “five finger discount” type of person (thief)?

48. Have they ever seen the ocean before? If they haven’t, do they want to?

49. Have they ever been in something like a hot air balloon or similar vessel? Or are there planes/airships in your world?

50. Can they communicate with animals? Is that unusual for the world?

51. Are they witty and sarcastic, or more stoic and serious?

52. If they could move up in the social station, would they? Why or why not?

53. Do they enjoy art? Are they an artist themselves or is it more about appreciating the art that others make?

54. Are they religious or spiritual? Do they have a patron deity?

55. Do they believe in an afterlife? What do they think will happen to them after death?

56. What is their birthday? What kind of calendar system is used in your world?

57. What did they last lie about?

58. Can they tell if someone is lying to them?

59. What is their favorite holiday? Least favorite?

60. Are they a vegetarian or a vegan? If they are, what are their reasons?

61. Do they take any regular medications or supplements?

62. Did they grow up in an urban or rural area? How has that helped or hindered them in the story?

63. Have they ever had their fortune told or gone to see a palm reader? How did that go?

64. Do they believe that anyone can be redeemed? Why or why not?

65. If they saw someone steal from a merchant, would they say anything? Does it matter if it’s a wealthy merchant or a more humble one?

66. What do they do when the weather is unbearably hot or cold?

67. Do they drink tea? What’s their favorite kind?

68. What do they keep in their bag? If they were suddenly dumped in the wilderness with only the items on their person/in their bag, how well would they fare?

69. Have they ever been intentionally injured by an animal or another person?

70. How would they respond if someone complimented them out of the blue?

71. Do they like to make small talk? If not, what sorts of conversations interest them?

72. Are they the type of person to take a nature walk just because? Do they stop and smell the flowers?

73. What is their favorite animal and why?

74. How would they behave at a fancy dinner party?

75. Would they last long if they were suddenly dropped into our world?
