Farewell Jimmy
American singer, songwriter, musician, author, and businessman Jimmy Buffet left this life on September 1, 2023. He is best known for his hit “Margaritaville” which is a song that made me think of palm trees dancing in the breeze, soft lapping saves upon the shore, and an ice-cold Margarita in my hand. He was also a bestselling author and has two restaurant chains named after his best-known songs Margaritaville Café and Cheeseburger in Paradise.

Another Piece of Pie Please
Europe Sweden Smulpaj is a combination of two Swedish words – smula meaning crumb and paj meaning pie. This is a delicious crumb pie with a crumbly mixture of diced fruit and berries and flavored with cinnamon and sugar. When the pie is served it is topped with whipped cream, vanilla custard, or ice cream.

Mobile on the Gulf Coast
Mobile is a port city on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. The USS Alabama a BB-60 battleship that was nicknamed "Mighty A” can be found in Battleship Memorial Park. It was launched in 1942 and decommissioned after WW II and became a part of Mobile’s new veteran’s memorial park in 1965. You can tour this ship and the USS Drum, a historic submarine. The park also has an impressive collection of aircraft and other historic military equipment from these eras as well as from the Vietnam War, the Korean War, and the Desert Storm conflict. The Battleship Memorial Park is dedicated to Alabama veterans who served from WW II to Operation Desert Storm.

The Golden Key
When I first posted this poem we were still together and through the years many expressed their like for it. It is printed in my book of poems “On the Wings of Love” which I dedicated to him. He has now returned the “golden key to his heart” to me and now waits for me in eternity. What is interesting about our time together is that one day in the summertime while swimming in the Daugava River in Riga, Latvia I found a golden key similar to the one in the photo and took it home. We had that key at home ever since then and I can tell you that after he passed away and I chose to return to the US I don't remember what happened to that key. I guess he really took it with him and for the memories.

The Horror of Frankenstein
Frankenstein and Dracula As a child I was not allowed to watch horror movies so monsters of any kind for me were associated with Halloween. I discovered it myself in my teens when my fascination with horror movies began. My mother’s first horror movie was the classic “Dracula” also released in 1931 with Bela Lugosi portraying the vampire. My parents as immigrants arrived in New York City in 1951 and during the 1950s they released “Dracula” once again in the movie theaters. Well mom was so interested that one evening dad took her to see the movie. She said she was never so frightened in all her life and was holding on tight to dad on the way home. Dad of course, had a great laugh about it all. I first met Frankenstein in the classic horror movie from Universal Pictures that was released in 1931 with Boris Karloff portraying the Monster. So when I asked mom if she would watch “Frankenstein” with me she did, but held onto a glass of wine.
