Some of the best amusement parks in Europe

Sweden

Grona Lund is located in Stockholm, Sweden on the seaward side of Djurgarden Island. It is the oldest amusement park in Sweden founded in 1883. The park has eight rollercoasters like Insane with fast speeds and wing cars.

There are many other rides among them the Flying Carpet Ride, Blue Train a dark ride, and House of Nightmares riding in a haunted house. There are also twelve rides for small children like Tea Cups.

Denmark

Tivoli Gardens or just Tivoli is a popular amusement park and pleasure garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the second oldest amusement park in the world opening in 1843.

Tivoli is best known for its wooden roller coaster Rutschebanen.

There are many other rollercoasters like The Demon featuring an Immelmann loop.

The Star Flyer a swing ride offering panoramic views of the city.

There are many other thrilling rides, rides for children, and many restaurants for refreshments.

England

Alton Towers Theme Park is located in Staffordshire, England, It is a theme park and resort complex near the village of Alton.

It has many rollercoasters, thrill rides, and rides for children, Among them is the Spinball Wizard a spinning rollercoaster.

There are also dark themed rides like The Curse of Alton Manor.

France

Parc Asterix is an amusement park in France about 35 km from Paris. It is known for its many rollercoasters. This theme park is based on the comic book series Asterix by Albert Uderzo and Rene Goscinny. It includes themes from historic culture like the Gauls, the Romans, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Egypt.

Goudrix

Among the exciting rides are Pegase Express a steel rollercoaster and Goudrix a multi-looping coaster.

The Netherlands

Efteling is a fantasy-themed amusement park in Kaatsheuvel. It is themed on ancient myths and legends, fairy tales, fables, and folklore. The park was built in an existing pine forest so there are large ponds and garden surrounding it.

The park has six rollercoasters and four dark rides. It is divided into five themed areas – the Travel Realm, Fairy Realm, Adventure Realm, and Other Realm. Most of the historical rides and attractions are in the West in the Fairy Tale Forest.

The Adventure Realm is where you’ll find most of the fast rides like the Python a double-loop rollercoaster.

Germany

Europa-Park is the largest theme park in Germany. The park is located in Rust in southwestern Germany between Frieburg and Strasbourg, France. Here you’ll find thirteen rollercoasters for chills and thrills. The oldest of them is the Alpenexpress Mine Train which speeds through a diamond mine.

The newest is Arthur which is a suspended indoor/outdoor powered rollercoaster and dark ride combination.

Europa-Park is divided into sixteen European themed areas and offers visitors more than 100 attractions and shows. To delight children there are fairytale worlds like the interactive Rapunzel Tower.

There is also Rulantica water world offering slide fun and relaxation.

When you’re hungry there are Taverna Mykonos for Greek food, pizza at Pizzeria Venezia, snacks at Jack’s Deli and many other restaurants, bars, and cafes.

Austria

The Wiener Prater is a large public park in Vienna, Austria and is the oldest amusement park in the world. It is simply called Prater and includes the Wiener Riesenrad Ferris Wheel.

The park includes nine rollercoasters like the Wild Maus.

There are many other thrill rides and slower rides.

Italy

Gardaland is an amusement park found in north-eastern Italy and includes Gardaland, Gardaland Sea-Life, Legoland Waterpark, and Gardaland Hotel. The park stretches along Lake Garda.

There are four themed areas:

Fantasy Kingdom

Rio Bravo with a Western theme

Peppa Pig Land for small children

Prezzemolo Land with a Medieval theme

The park had seven roller coasters like the Blue Tornado a suspended, looping coaster.

Three water rides like Jungle Rapids and many other rides and attractions.

Spain

PortAventura is a theme park and a resort in the south of Barcelona. It has become the most visited theme park in Spain, The park has five themed areas that are based on civilizations:

Mediterrania is located at the main entrance to the park and features three rides. Furius Baco an Intamin Accelerator Coaster with winged seating, Port de la Drassana a boat ride, and Estacio del Nord a narrow-gauge railroad ride. Special shows are featured.

Polynesia features Tutuki Splash a water ride in a flume-style boat, Dino Escape 4D Experience with riders taken in a dynamic cinema themed as a submarine to a journey to the bottom of the ocean, Kontiki a pirate ship ride, and Canoes a junior water ride. Two shows are also featured regularly.

China is the biggest theme land in the park with the main path through the area resembling the Great Wall of China. Rides include the Dragon Khan with the tallest vertical loop on any rollercoaster, Shambala a B&M hyper rollercoaster which is the tallest coaster in Europe, Angkor a large splash battle themed ride, Cobra Imperial, and Tea Cups. There are various shows featured.

Mexico is themed on pre-Columbian Mexico with temples, statues, and a Great Pyramid which is the entrance to the Gran Teatro Maya, the biggest show zone in the park.

Rides featured are Hurakan Condor a drop tower ride, El Diablo a mine train ride, El Secreto de los Mayas with a mirror maze, Yucatan a spinning ride resembling a large snake, Armadillos a children’s version of Yucatan, and Serpiente Emplumada another spin ride.

Far West is themed after on old Wild West Town with Western-style buildings and sculptures. Among the rides are Stampida a wooden roller coaster, Tomahawk a junior version of Stampida, Silver River Flume ride, Grand Canyon Rapids a whitewater tub raft ride, a Wild West version of Breakdance ride, and Dogems.

In 2011 a themed area based on Sesame Street opened. Sesame Street character greet visitors to this area found between China and Polynesia. There are eleven rides among them Tami Tami a rollercoaster for children, Magic Fish a water carousel, and El Salto de Blas a drop-tower for kids.
