Will We Ever Return to Normal? Or, Is This The New Normal? If So, Will There Be a New New Normal Tomorrow?
The Pandemic has left indelible scars on all of us. Right from our working models to our living arrangements, there is no sphere of life that has been left untouched. Whether it be financial, emotional, psychological, or physiological, the effects of the Pandemic linger. Some of us lost our loved ones. Others suffered from not knowing when this nightmare would end. Be it the layperson or the most powerful men and women in the world, Covid has been a Great Leveler. Moreover, there is no certainty when we would resume our "normal" lives and more importantly, whether this is the New Normal wherein we live precariously not knowing if any of the Delta and Kappa variants would wreak havoc yet again.

The Pandemic has Devastated Humanity. The Silver Lining is that It has Ushered in the Digital Age.
The devastation wrought by the Pandemic caused by the Coronavirus has been immense and all encompassing. Not only was this a health and human catastrophe, it has also resulted in a humanitarian disaster in many countries worldwide. Indeed, the financial, economic, and social costs of the Pandemic have been so humongous and the scars so deep, that the recovery would take a few years or more. Moreover, there is no certainty about the "end point" and whether we would ever return to "normal".

Of Dubious Donors and the Moral Hazes of Giving and Receiving Donations
Of Dubious Donors and Moral Hazes of Giving and Receiving Donations Photo by Tim Mossholder on UnsplashThis is the Age of Philanthropy. Right from Bill Gates and Warren Buffet in the United States to Infosys and Azim Premji in India as well as the countless GoFundMe crowdfunding campaigns, we are living in times when Giving is Good. Indeed, the amounts of money involved are truly mindbogglingly huge as Hundreds of Billions of Dollars are being raised by both Non Profits and Individuals from Millions of Donors. With so much "joy" at giving and the gratitude of the recipients, one might very well ask, Where is the Problem if both eager donors and grateful recipients are happy with the largess being doled about.

It is Alarming that India is Ignoring the Faultlines That Led to the Second Wave and Risking a Catastrophic Third Wave.
From the premature triumphalism after the First Wave of Infections caused by the Covid Pandemic, to the sheer incompetence and outright “abandoning” of its citizens when confronted by a brutal Second Wave, India has indeed come a long way. While the First Wave was “managed” by keeping testing rates low and under counting cases and deaths, the ferocity of the Second Wave “exposed” India’s Systemic “fault lines” that laid bare its shortcomings and questioned its very ability at governance of a large and multi ethnic society.

It is Time to Rein in Big Tech and Lina Khan is the Best Person for the Job
Have Big Technology firms such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Apple have become Too Big To Care? With their businesses churning Billions in revenues and their stock prices at all time highs, are they “railroading” (this term has been used deliberately to refer to the parallels with the Gilded Age Robber Barons, who like Big Tech now, were known for riding roughshod over competitors) the small businesses and consumers alike in search of a monopolistic paradise where what they say goes.

The Next Shoe to Drop? Why a Pandemic Induced Economic Crisis is Likely in India?
While we are busy discussing the Second and the probable Third Wave of the infections due to the Covid 19 virus and its variants, another crisis is brewing in India and it is more than certain that the already battered economy would witness a crisis in the form of stressed banks and financial institutions needing bailouts to save them from collapse.

Dodging a New Dark Age
Is the much feared “biblical apocalypse” upon us? Just like the Four Horsemen of Doom, we have famine, pestilence, death, and disease among us. And, with the Holy Land up in flames, maybe the “signs” are all too familiar. Turning to more earthly concerns, the Coronavirus has wrought unimaginable havoc on the world and has brought us to the point where many are questioning if the very survival of the human race is in peril. Indeed, with the convergence of economic, political, social, and healthcare systems collapse, one wonders whether we are headed into a “New Dark Age”.

Great Expectations? Nah! Why we Must Need to be Realistic about the Biden-Putin Summit
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has met his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Geneva. While it is natural to have “great expectations” from such a “pivotal” summit, especially at a time when the “dark clouds” of the Cold War seem to be returning, one must look askance at any “breakthrough” from such a meeting. Given the rather deteriorating relations between these two superpowers (of course, one must add “ex” to Russia, however much its citizens, and more importantly, its rulers, believe that they deserve the honorific), a modest appraisal is needed for any possible “outcomes”. Indeed, going by the latest news, it seems as though the prospect of the two presidents appearing in a joint press conference, is also remote.

Here's Why We Risk a Lost Generation of Learners Due to the Covid Pandemic
Among the many aspects of our lives that were disrupted due to the Covid Pandemic, the impact on students of all ages is worrisome. Not only are kids and young adults have had their studies disrupted, the added risk of them losing out on the precious face to face interactions that are so essential in their formative years, means that we risk losing a generation due to the Pandemic. As it is, virtual pedagogy and online classes, have robbed the students of the valuable “lessons” that are crucial to their cognitive development. Added to this is the lack of emotional skill building that comes with in person education.

Oh! How the Mighty Fall!! Or, Do They Really?
If news reports are anything to go by, the swift condemnation of the tech visionary and the celebrated founder of Microsoft because of his alleged dalliances and his relationship with the now deceased financier, Jeffrey Epstein, has been long overdue. Indeed, some have expressed surprise at how "inevitable" it was for Gates' and his rumored flings and advances towards women, to come out, considering that they were long speculated upon.

How the Viral Times are Forcing us to Struggle for Existence and Live for the Moment
We are living in truly extraordinary times. On one hand, the viral viruses and their many strains and variants are making us fearful for our lives, and worse, forcing us to scrounge for everything from hospital beds and oxygen to food and basic necessities for everyday living. On the other hand, we are living in a Zombie like state due to the relentless onslaught of the media and the incessant pings of our gadgets. Indeed, the common denominator for both is the virality of the spread where both the virus and the digitally mediated world makes us flit from crisis to crisis without a thought for the longer term implications of our words and actions.

Dude! Where's My Country? Is India Going the Way of The Erstwhile Soviet Union?
As India battles an apocalyptic Second Wave of Coronavirus infections, and the state having melted away right when its citizens needed it the most, one wonders whether the country is going the way of the erstwhile Soviet Union and imploding from within. While the collapse of the healthcare system is visible to all, there are some invisible signs of implosion that one can discern if we connect the dots.
