Greatness Is in the Hole of the Beholder
There are two main reasons why Gideon always chooses the penthouse suites of the Palm d’Or hotel chain. One are the voice activated blackout window panels: to keep his one-night stands fast asleep as he quietly hotfoots it out; that way, he never risks awkward and pointless morning-after banter. The panels are impeccable at their job; not a sliver of light creeps in, and there is never any talk of next encounters.

Open Letter to a Young Poetic Genius
NB: I wrote this open letter in January 2021, which got lost among a million pixels at the end of a wholly unrelated Word document. As I was by chance editing that document today, I happily found the letter. Though I intended to at the time, in losing it I forgot to send it to Troy, but I have now.

To Sea Inside
The brassy clamoring of car horns creates a cacophony, pierced only by drivers shouting and a wailing alarm siren. Simon realizes the traffic will not budge. Amid all the noise, his body registers and isolates a deep, low vibration, and for a moment he feels inside a giant dynamo. The can of Cola on his dashboard rattles and falls. The rumble becomes a sound.
