Tyranny
The life we once knew was no more! The Upper Crest regime had taken the lives of most of our friends who refused to live life on its terms and those who were taken into captivity went through volatile processing. I remember hearing Johnathan speak of it with such revulsion. He told me that the peoples' shoes were replaced with metal boots, which made it hard, if not impossible to run. And if you thought of running, Upper Crest guards would, at the push of a button, send 2000 volts of electric shock through your body...by way of those damned metal boots! The thought of it all really pissed me off!

The Tale of Two Bunnies
The Significance of Two's Before you get to the heart of this story, let me first tell you that it is not at all about bunnies. At least, not entirely! I used them here as a reference form for literary symbolism! Largely in part because outside of my window today, I literally saw TWO BROWN BUNNIES!

Final Justice
How old were you in 2005? Better yet, can you remember how great it felt to be nearing the close of another school year and entering into summer break? If you close your eyes for a moment, I bet you could still smell the scent of chlorine-drenched swim trunks and hotdogs fresh off the grill. Such a pairing makes for the beginnings of a fun-filled summer, wouldn't you agree?

JonBenet
Any story revolving around a murder or some sort of kidnapping petrifies me! When those stories include the senseless, brutal death and taking of a child's life, it tugs at my heartstrings in a completely different way. The type of way that makes your blood boil and causes chills to run down your spine! And if that isn't enough and the perpetrator is never apprehended or brought to justice, well, let's just say there aren't enough words in a dictionary to describe the type of emotion that I feel behind that inhumane brutality.

The Power of Flowers
September 17th, 1998, I was 16 years old! Most kids my age were sitting around studying for their Geometry test, or better yet, gearing up for Friday's football game. As for me, well, let's just say that I was gearing up for something else entirely--Motherhood! That's right, folks! In a few short hours, I would become a teenage mom to one and a statistic to others. While I will not boggle you down with the intricate details of my life throughout those years, I will leave you with the most important facet of my life during that time...my newborn baby was born with several disabilities which rendered her a quadriplegic and blind. Before she turned one year old, her physician declared that she would not survive past 3 years of age. So there we were Bri age ten months, and me now 17 years old, with an uphill battle to climb.

Into my own
For the past fifteen years, my parents had taken the pleasure of packing up their car with our tent, an ice chest, three fishing rods, and basic hygiene essentials. All items were necessary to survive our family's weekend camping trip in the woods. At age thirteen, my parents dared me that I could not last one night in our backyard alone. Much to their surprise, I did! My only invocation was that we would have to camp out every year. What originally began as a challenge has now turned into a family tradition of a week-long trek through some of the world's renowned national parks. More recently though, my mom had broken her leg in two places trying to prevent Beacon, our family's golden retriever, from running into the street after a squirrel, and my dad called to tell me that they are not able to make the trip this year.
