Efforts in the wrong direction are in vain
After graduating from Stanford, Steinbeck worked as a security guard at a fish farm in Lake Tahoe, California. He was fired shortly after for writing at work. At this time, he met and married his first wife. In order to survive, he started a business of making plaster models. He runs a business and writes at the same time. Although his first novel, The Golden Cup, was published, he did not make writing a career. Because his income from writing is limited, he wants to be a successful businessman.
