My Second Favourite Album: El Dorado by The Electric Light Orchestra
The genesis of the Electric Light Orchestra was a band that would take over from the Beatles at the fade outs to “Strawberry Fields Forever” and ”I Am The Walrus” , both heavy on strings but still steeped in rock. The Beatles had not been scared of orchestral arrangements and “Eleanor Rigby” contained only Paul McCartney on vocals , the music being provided double string quartet arranged by George Martin.

Weathering The Storm At Sea
Sometimes things seem to threaten and overwhelm us but we always have the strength to come through and succeed , especially with a wondrous , inspirational spirit like my Muse and the love and support she gives me and I try to give to her.

A Halloween Film Evening
A Halloween Film Evening has been proposed by my good friend Les. As usual I am going to stray from the norm. The selected films need to frighten you and maybe disturb you , but do they have to shock you or disgust you , I think not . Hitchcock said “There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it.” and sometimes that is the sign of a great film, if it can scare you without resorting to special effects.

Song To The Siren (The Song)
"Song to the Siren" is a song written by Tim Buckley and his writing partner Larry Beckett and was released by Buckley on his 1970 album Starsailor. I recently wrote a poem based on the concept of this song and then read the lyrics to the song and mine absolutely paled into complete insignificance against the original lyrics.

An Out Of Time Playlist
Almost every song you hear on the radio , or you stream is in 4/4 time , Yes some are slow and some are fast but they are mostly 4/4 time. Classical Music does not have this constraint but Classical Music is hardly your perfect pop song despite actually hitting the charts via Waldo De Los Rios “Mozart 40” and various classical TV themes. Stars On 45 Had one which was played to a disco beat and the Portsmouth Sinfonia released a “Classical Muddley” (but they couldn’t really play , but were the orchestra on “Put A Straw Under Baby” on Brian Eno’s “Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy”.

The Sandman and The Sea Girl
This was going to be a poem for my Muse but when I thought properly about it became heavily influenced by “The Snow Goose” by Paul Gallico (which you can read about here) and I realised it had to be a proper story. You will see the similarities if you know the book , but this is my take on this sort of situation.

The Invitation
It was just a card , standard postcard size , but very high quality. The card was an invite , there was an address in a high class expensive part of the city, and an offer of substantial financial remuneration for an hour of his time. A two way conversation would be expected and would be held in the library.
