My Journey Through Life with Multiple Chronic Illnesses
I am a 48-year-old woman soon to turn 49, and my life has been a constant battle with multiple chronic illnesses. My journey is a testament to the strength and resilience required to navigate life with conditions that many might struggle to comprehend. Since early childhood, I've faced numerous health issues, from joint pain and rashes to allergies, frequent pneumonia, kidney infections, and heart problems. Every doctor my parents took me to simply brushed off my symptoms, saying, "It's just growing pains; you're fine." The rashes, they claimed, were reactions to laundry soap or certain foods. They never ran any tests to determine the real issue, and this dismissal left a lasting impact on my perception of my own health.

Disability
Many people seem to think that being on SSDI is a vacation. These people have no idea how wrong they are. I have been on SSDI for ten years now. It's not a picnic or walk in the park. People have said I am lucky. I am anything but lucky. I have severe fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, heart issues and spinal issues due to a car accident 27 years ago.

Fibro Fog
When someone has fibromyalgia, they will experience numerous different symptoms. Not just pain & fatigue. One of the issues I find to be most annoying is what's called fibro fog. With fibro fog, you can't think clearly, focussing on tasks is extremely difficult. My brain feels like a scrabble bag. All the letters are jumbled up. Trying to find the right words, phrases, etc, is difficult. It can easily take me a few days just to write one article. When having a conversation with someone, I need to top what I am doing and just focus on that one conversation. It can be daunting. It is so frustrating trying to speak with someone when you know what you want to say but just can't form the words.

Living With Fibromyalgia
Life with fibromyalgia is far from easy. Everything takes a little longer to do. Some days I feel as though I can't accomplish anything, while other days I feel as if I can conquer the world. Of course, those days are few and far between. Living with fibromyalgia has taught me patience and understanding. This illness is difficult, frustrating, nerve-wracking. Getting out of bed in the morning is a chore in itself. Joints and muscles are stiff. It feels as though if I can only have oil injected into my joints and muscles, I would be able to move easier. Unfortunately, that is not an option. I have found that doing a few stretches in the morning while still in bed, helps. It doesn't take the stiffness or soreness away, but it does help loosen the joints and muscles.
