Losing Days to PMDD
Not too long ago, I had some company come to town, had an art exhibit, and did some travel with my visiting friend. For an introvert like me, I probably took on too much. Soon, I was in the thick of PMDD and living the repercussions of overdoing it. I suspect I’m not the only woman with that problem.

Discovering Dysphoria
I started to appreciate my period as I grew more mature. It happened as a result of exploring alternative means of healing and meeting a bunch of pagans while I studied shamanism. The Wiccan women I encountered seemed to appreciate their cycles. They spoke of "moon times" and "flow"...words I'd never associated with what I only knew as "the curse" because the word "menstruation" was far too bulky to be useful in most circumstances. I didn't know it was connected to the moon or the three faces of the goddess (virgin, maiden, crone), or that my blood was actually magical.

The Pill and the Polyp
This article isn't about sex. I know, I know. You're disappointed. Me too. But all the best writers say to write about what you know, and to this day, I know very little about sex. Not long after getting my bachelor's degree, I was safely married and out of sin's way. I had a whopping total of two sexual encounters before I met my first husband.

Cursed, Period
I grew up in the 70's and 80's in an Italian Catholic home with parents who never talked about S-E-X. The topic, never brought up intentionally but sometimes penetrating the impervious genetically inbuilt "wall of shame" via the television, was met with complete denial. I never brought it up either. I think I was born into the family with the avoidance gene already firmly expressed.

Living with PMDD
When I married my husband, I didn’t realize that I had Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder or PMDD. In fact, I knew I had some kind of monthly dysphoria, but it was never as bad as it seemed to get once we were married. I won’t theorize about that for now because it could be the result of so many things…stress, change, age, etc…but I will say that for some time, my husband thought maybe he had brought it on, and to be perfectly honest, he wasn't helping!
