I Grew Up Without a MirrorTop Story - June 2021
The first time I saw a queer person on TV, he was a gay man in a soap opera. I knew he was gay because that was everything he was. He was an obnoxiously loud hairdresser who constantly flirted with the straight, macho men around him, demonstrating a severe lack of boundaries and making everyone uncomfortable. This man, whose every quality made him more a woman than a man, had limp wrists, a persistent lisp, and constantly put his hands on his hips. His purpose was clear: he was here to be ridiculed.

Gemini Rising
It is time, Gemini. Venus and Saturn are in alignment, so the moment for preparations is over and the great change you were waiting for is here. It is time for you to embrace it like you do every new project: with great excitement and an unreeling optimism. You worked hard and you put your best effort into this, so of course the Universe heard you and is now throwing a new life your way. Get ready to take it and make it your own.

TikTok's (not-)Meat is (not-)Bad?
I need to face the facts: eating meat regularly isn’t helping the planet. Perhaps I can close my eyes to the animal cruelty and the horrors of the meat industry, but one cannot deny climate change. I mean, one can, I think right-wing politicians have proved that much. But one really shouldn’t and I’m not going to. While I wait for corporations to grow a conscience (don’t worry, I’ve got myself a comfy chair) and actually make an effort to clean the mess they’re making, quite literally, I’m looking for small ways I can contribute.

Someone Knocked on the Elevator Door
Because the elevator at work is an old piece of junk, I didn't worry too much when it went down instead of up. Sure, I was annoyed, but what else had I expected? The thing rattles and lags and seems to have its own personality at times, of course it couldn't follow something as simple as a pressed button telling it to go up.

Take Good Care of My Home
I'm sure you are clever. Exceedingly clever. The kind of person who would never fall for an online scam, isn't that right? Especially a ridiculous one. You know what I'm talking about. “You've just won a trip to Barbados, please give us your social insurance number!” or “I am a Nigerian princess and I have to get rid of all this gold!” No, you'd never fall for that. At the first sight of a red flag, you would turn around and run. Only naive idiots fall for such things.

The Climb
After graduating from university, my boyfriend and I started sharing this attic apartment in an old house. Rent wasn't too bad and, while we were a little too far from downtown, at least we had our own bathroom and even a tiny kitchen. Most importantly, the house had its own washing machine and dryer, and since Rafael and I were both tired of dragging our laundry baskets to the nearest laundromat, that actually influenced our decision to move in.

Mixed & Matched
Triggers: death, ghosts, blood, implied violence and sickness, accidental misgendering of a non-binary character. Mitch’s answer to “what the hell happened here?” was a sheepish, “We acquired a wedding dress this afternoon.” And that was enough of an explanation, I didn’t need anything else, but I still asked, “Oh, did we now?” because I was feeling frustrated and I wanted to make him feel guilty. Judging by the way his shoulders slumped, it worked very well.
