5 Generations of Fashion.
This article is being written for GQ Magazine. Next to Vogue, being in GQ Magazine is the highlight for me to be written about. Fashion has always been a part of my life. My family has been in textiles for 5 generations. Watching my Mom and Dad dress since I was a little boy got me interested in cloths. When we moved from Upper Saddle River, New Jersey to Saddle River, New Jersey, I had an "accordion closet" that held all of my cloths. At the age of 16, I already had about 10 suits, 8 blazers and 8 pair of dress shoes. My parents had a dry cleaners garment machine that swung around so that they could see the vast amounts of garments in their closet.

This is Laura Knight. Top Story - April 2025.
Today, I have rediscovered an art treasure I thought I had lost. And on my own doorstep. Foolishly, when I saw it in the Queer British Art exhibition in 2017, I didn't check where the painting was located. It is ironic, then, that despite several visits to the National Portrait Gallery in London over the past year, I had not seen the gallery where this sumptuous painting hangs in pride of place. Not until today, April 21, 2025.

Why We Still Recognize Mastery
Walk into any major museum and an interesting phenomenon occurs. Visitors stop. Not in front of every artwork, and not always in front of the most famous ones. Yet certain works seem capable of slowing people down. Conversations become quieter. Attention becomes more focused. People stay longer than they intended.

An In-Depth Exploration of Journey to the Center of the Earth
Few adventure novels have captured the imagination of readers as powerfully as Journey to the Center of the Earth. Written by Jules Verne and first published in 1864, this groundbreaking work blends science, adventure, and fantasy into a thrilling tale of exploration beneath the Earth’s surface. As one of the earliest works of modern science fiction, the novel not only reflects the scientific curiosity of the 19th century but also demonstrates Verne’s extraordinary ability to transform speculative science into gripping storytelling.

Islam (2017–2019)
As one of the world’s major religious traditions, Islam has profoundly shaped civilizations, intellectual history, artistic production, and systems of social organization across continents and centuries. At its philosophical core lies the principle of tawhid — the unity of God — which establishes a vision of existence grounded in coherence, order, and interconnectedness. In Islam (2017–2019), Gheorghe Virtosu approaches this vast spiritual and cultural tradition through abstraction, constructing a monumental visual field that investigates the relationship between unity and multiplicity, revelation and perception, the individual and the collective.

Hawai Sakusen (2002–2004)
History painting has often focused on the visible manifestations of conflict: armies in motion, decisive encounters, and moments of victory or defeat. In Hawai Sakusen (2002–2004), Gheorghe Virtosu approaches warfare from a fundamentally different perspective. Rather than depicting combat itself, the artist examines the conditions that precede confrontation, transforming military strategy into a visual language of anticipation, uncertainty, and latent force.

The Couple of the Universe (2006)
Throughout the history of art, the image of the couple has often functioned as a symbol of unity, intimacy, and human connection. Yet in The Couple of the Universe (2006), Gheorghe Virtosu transforms this familiar subject into something far more expansive. Rather than depicting two identifiable individuals, the painting investigates the very structure of relational existence itself. Through abstraction, Virtosu constructs a dynamic visual system in which identity emerges through interaction, suggesting that connection is not merely a human condition but a fundamental principle of the universe.

Girl Interrupted
"Girl Interrupted" at The Public is an adaptation of the 1999 movie that landed Angelia Jolie an Oscar for best supporting actress. Here the play is directed and acted beautifully. Even though the play is set with music, the music is never overbearing nor consuming, and it adds subtly to the show.
