Vocal
Learn to Love Writing
September 2021: I became officially, unequivocally, a full-time professional writer. My rolling admin contract with the university I had been working at finally had an end date stamped onto it. That pretty much took the decision out of my hands. I would just let that day come and go, and when it came and went, I would be a full-time professional copywriter, because I literally had nothing else!

My vocal goals
My first and most important goal to me is to get a top story. That has been my goal from the start. It doesn't matter to me whether it is a fiction or non-fiction story. I have a feeling it will be a nonfiction story. I have several non-fiction stories written that are in the style of other top stories. I just have to type and publish them. I would love the exposure people get for having a top story. I know I am a good writer. I have stories that have done well. I just can't figure out how to get a top story.

vocal bliss
As the new year approaches, there is always a significant push to pick ourselves apart, see where we can make personal improvements, set goals, and decide how to completely change our lives to become even better versions of ourselves. Although I feel the excitement around the impulse of making changes, improving, and setting goals, I’m not one to set my lofty resolutions during the frigid winter months. I’m in hibernation mode, and if it doesn't include a sweater, slippers, and tea, I’m probably not going.

32 Missed Opportunities
I am a logical, perfectionistic, optimist. Breaking that down into manageable pieces will show that I hold myself to an extremely high standard and I tend to look on the bright side of potential outcomes. Having a sunny disposition and strong work ethic is a good thing right? I thought so too. It is a great outlook on life, but I have only begun to realize that my perfectionism brings me stagnating fear of failure, logic leaves me no room for the emotions, and with optimism comes a hazy naivety. Vocal is the only platform that I write on, and this year, I want to do it differently.

The Sculptor
I have numerous intentions for myself as a creator on Vocal for this year. Because there is a somewhat lengthy list, I have organized my aspirations into categories. My hope is that this will not only make it easier to read, but that on my end, I will better be able to refer back to my list of intentions and check on my progress throughout the year. Refreshing my mind on what my goals are will help keep me on track when I lose motivation and focus. This is the hope.

Growth
I am sitting at the bottom of it all. The acid from the belly of the beast is crashing over me. Flesh slipping off bones, like gushing water down a 20 ft slide. I hold on to my smile to show the world I am enjoying the suffering. This year on Vocal I don't want to gloss over the tough shit.

What is Vocal to Me?
Almost three years ago, I scrolled through a series of social media threads about this platform that made me ask other users what Vocal meant to them. It was, like most things that I write, a decent-to-middling piece that felt relevant at the time and still holds up well enough overall.
