As promised! ViM Top notes on the officially designated day! This week has been a busy one for us at ViM HQ. Lots of planning and shenaniganing, and a few very exciting upcoming interviews! You can check them out in our 'Warren', here:

More on all that in a future post. For now, we’ll focus on our amazing discoveries this week! As always narrowing the list down was near impossible but we did it in the end!

As always, entirely randomly…

ROCK

Wanting in Winter

In this piece, Rock’s prose is hauntingly beautiful. They interlace feelings of deep longing and perseverance with the delicate power of enduring love. Brimming with raw emotion, the lyrical prose is immersive and captivating, inviting the reader into a world of contemplation and exploration of the depths of human connection and resilience. A touching read for anyone thinking about life, love and the univesre.

Mike Singleton - Mikeydred

Ode To My Muse

In this heartfelt poem, Mike expresses both gratitude and admiration for a cherished friend. A source of inspiration and encouragement, the unnamed muse of the title offers hope as the narrator explores the transformative power of shared moments of inspiration. A lovely, thought-provoking read for anyone seeking an uplift and an injection of positivity into the daily drone.

Kenny Penn

La chaqueta de cuero

A bit of a longer one but well worth the extra time. A fantastically crafted narrative once again Kenny Penn. His expertise truly shine through in this captivating piece. Through vivid imagery and engaging dialogue, the reader is enticed in to the world of the unassuming, Miguel - a recent graduate of med school - as he experiences a somewhat odd evening. Excellent characterisation with an intriguing plotline, featuring themes of the supernatural, friendship and the power of love. Perfect for anyone looking for immaculate storytelling and an opportunity to disappear to another world, if only for a short time.

Silk Sheets

A delightful poem that captures the heart of nostalgia and the longing for a time gone by. Vivid imagery and poignant reflections immerse the reader in the bittersweet emotions of the narrator as they contemplate the past. A gentle reminder of the fleeting nature of time and how quickly moments can turn to memory. Exploring the experience of growing older, a touching read for anyone feeling the weight of the passage of time and the inevitability of change.

Stephanie Hoogstad

Red Shift

A truly masterful reworking of the traditional tale of the Pied piper, this riveting ride immerses readers in a richly detailed world of fantasy, fairytale and the magical. Stephanie insightfully manipulates the original story into a compelling narrative that will leave readers both surprised and wondering if this is in fact the original. Suspense filled and brimming with clever symbolic touches, it truly is a delightfully dark read that ends on a heart-pleasing note. A must for anyone who appreciates the majesty of thought provoking and vivid storytelling.

ImperfectlyPerfect

Goodbye Little Girl

A bittersweet tale that navigates the cherished memories of a childhood home. Introspective and evocative, this piece explores a pivotal moment in life. With a cleverly crafted juxtaposition between the comfort of childhood and the melancholy of change and loss, the narrative explores the need to move on but the pull of the past. Capturing the universally recognised emotion of saying goodbye and the enduring impact of moving on. A truly heartfelt work that offers a deep insight into what it is to be human.
