The Instructions of Mira Alsop
Mira Alsop wrote one book of fiction in her lifetime. It sold four hundred and twelve copies, most of them to relatives. She wrote, by contrast, an estimated eleven thousand pages of appliance instructions over a thirty-one-year career at Dorland Home Products. Toasters, humidifiers, box fans, a line of pasta makers that never made it past regional distribution. She held the title of Technical Writer II and, for the last four years of her career, Technical Writer II (Senior).

A sidewalk Without Footsteps, a Voice Left Behind: The legacy of Henrik Hageland. Top Story - July 2026.
The author Henrik Hageland is dead. Why on earth should I care? A piece of news as empty as a sucked-out coconut. Hard to crack open, and perhaps a hell of a mess once you succeed?

Will You Accept the Challenge?
Green Eggs and Ham exists because Dr. Seuss took a fifty dollar bet that he could not write a whole book using fifty words or fewer. He won. The entire story runs on exactly fifty different words, and every one is a single syllable except the word anywhere. One of the best loved children's books ever was built from a vocabulary you could fit on a napkin, all to settle a bet.

The ghost who wrote in knives: . Runner-Up in The Posthumous Author Challenge. Top Story - July 2026.
She was a poet first. Everything else came afterwards. Mother. Teacher. Patron saint of everything “basic bitch” aesthetics. A hint of the typical Cancer architect — even if she states that she “didn’t actually believe that shit.” (She totally did, in fact.) Consistently, she would be looking up the soulmate signs, find relief that a Pisces was still the main contender, and be thrilled that she didn’t marry him in vain.
