Fighting The Giant
Author’s Note: These prompts are my attempt at working on writing fiction. Fight The Giant - Cards against normality prompt: Your hero will have to face her adversary at some point. Why not right now? List the ways the enemy could bring the fight to the hero right now. If your hero has a plan, how can she be forced to accelerate it? Perhaps she learns new information, or a window of opportunity is closing Coincidence happens. Brainstorm three ways your hero and antagonist could find themselves in the same location unexpectedly.

Le Guin Apprenticeship Journal
When I was a mere sprat, I wouldn't read. It took every (extremely) concerned adult in my drab, bookless life a loooooong while to realise the problem was the stories I'd been listening to. Greek Myths and The Faraway Tree are some of the standouts I remember. Then, when it came to reading for myself, the stories were just Bill and Ben and their big red ball, Sally and Ted go on a picnic. Where was the Plot, where was the Adventure!? Where were the Characters?! Eventually, someone sat me down and patiently explained that if I endured Bill and Ben are boring as hell a little while longer, I could make my own way to The Hobbit in the end. And the rest, as they say, is history. I love words; I'm sure all of us here do. I love the sounds, I love the shapes they make in my mouth. I love the pictures they make in my head. I love the feeling when a stranger's words find a place to take hold in me. And I love the dream that my own words may do the same somewhere, somehow, someday.

Hero Who Become Fugitives or Cures or Causes an Epidemic
Cards Against Normality — Prompt: Everything happens for a reason. Usually that reason should be your hero. Look for ways she can take the reins of the story. There’s nothing wrong with a “passive” hero as long as her passivity alters the course of the story. (By her doing nothing, something changes.) Consider reversing the cause and effect. What if your hero robs a bank because she’s a fugitive? What if your doctor causes rather than cures the epidemic?

All "Raise Your Glass To America" Toasts
My bimonthly unofficial challenge fell on July, and what could be better than to put out a challenge for a celebratory toast to America for its 250-year anniversary of independence! I've had a lot of fun reading the entries, ranging from pure celebratory and patriotic toasts to tongue-in-cheek wishes for the country to correct its current course.
