Typical Scottish Rebellion and Non-Compliance

Author’s note:

From the perspective of a comedian, a fun roast based loosely on facts is the highest honor and display of respect and appreciation for your fellow artist. With that said, please keep in mind that this is written with nothing but love for my fellow artist who I believe has an eccentric style of both writing and humor similar to my own:

Paul’s Ledger is a flagrant act of typical Scottish rebellion and non-compliance.

Even the title of this poem is a nod to the Scottish Covenanters that signed a literal ledger or manifesto, the National Covenant (1638).

Paul’s complete disregard of the rules of English grammar and poetry structure, as imposed by the colonizers, is a middle finger to all structure used by the English to control and subjugate the Scotts.

His forcing the reader to speed up and slow down and read backwards is his attempt to take back his power which he clearly is losing in other areas of his life. Even the use of the spelling “pleisure” is his way of forcing the standard English reader to trip over the vowel structure, while subjecting him to the Scottish phrasing. Then he immediately moves from this concept of uncomfortable pleasure to an immediate and violent act: S. T. A. B...

Putting the word “safety” between the numbers 10 (often considered the numerical equivalent to universal completeness) is an attempt to make himself feel safe by causing others to squeeze their minds into his constructs, as well represented by the sketch of stairs that trap you in his world. Following it with the number 6, often associated with the devil (read 666), is proof of his devilish ambitions.

And the egocentricity of making this a challenge and subjecting us to his artwork... Devilish indeed.

Understanding Scottish national identity is understanding Paul’s new style of poetry.

While I applaud him stretching his creative muscles, the Scottish need to act out in defiance of English is not a "revolutionary" concept. If I had to sum up Paul’s style of art and expression it would be as if William Wallace, in the movie Braveheart, was played by someone with less confidence than Mel Gibson and possibly a slight bit of autism.
