Writing Quicksand
Some of you may know that I write on several platforms. I have been writing for a year and a half, and in that time I have learned quite a bit. Some of what I have learned is good; some not so much. What I have found mirrors what is happening in life in general. No one is doing anyone any favors; companies are making money off others’ talents, and they seem to be the only winners. This is my honest critique and assessment of just three of the platforms I use.

Getting Oriented
I drove to Hickory this morning, up the backroads and 321, into the mountains to my new campus for orientation. Beautiful drive through the North Carolina countryside—Dallas, High Shoals, Lincolnton, Maiden, and Newton are the towns I pass through, even go right past Lineberger’s (stopped on the way home for some tomatoes, scored some figs, too). I live in the foothills, in the shadow of Spencer Mountain, so I’m climbing enroute, coasting home. I even found a gas station (well, more of a truck stop) with gas around fifty cents lower per gallon than I’m currently paying near home and an old general store/gas station with the old pumps, the ones that don’t read cards.

The Problem of Evil Explained: If God Is All-Powerful and Good, Why Does Suffering Exist?
Earthquakes destroy cities. Tsunamis kill thousands without warning. Stampedes at religious gatherings take the lives of people who came only to pray. Children suffer despite having done nothing that could possibly justify their pain.

What Happened to the HubPages Niche Sites?
What’s one of the most convoluted things you’ve ever experienced? For me, it has to do with a writing and publishing scheme that turned into a multi-year saga of grievances, pitfalls, and absurdities. I feel now is the time to dig deeper and figure out what’s the truth behind HubPages’ former niche sites. Let’s dig in the dirt together, shall we?

Writing Reflections: Security
Well, folks, another week has passed, which means that it is time for another Writing Reflection. This time, I want to focus on a piece that became a Top Story and dissect why it may have received that honor…and where it might have fallen short of expectations. For this purpose, I have chosen a story from two years ago from the Futurism Community titled “Security: A Tale from 2050”.
