How has my writing changed?

Has it changed at all?

Based on my first piece, Bipolar Disorder, and my most recent poem (since that is what I usually write), Without You, there have been only a few changes that I am able to notice.

In "Bipolar Disorder," I cover a very heavy topic. I explain the horror that comes with having this mental illness. I explained some of the stuff that some people deal with. I included a rapid change from mania to depression because that is the reality of having bipolar disorder. It is hard to deal with but easy for me to be honest about since I like to make it so people can understand or maybe even relate.

"Without You," an ode to coffee, is much more lighthearted. It is funny but remains true. People can relate to this somewhat humorous poem, especially a lot of other writers. It makes me wonder if it is part of the job. Recently, some of my writing has become less serious while others remain serious in order to vent.

My writing is the same in the format. When writing poetry, I try to keep some sort of rhyme scheme. I have never had a set rhyme scheme but it is always there. The language, for the most part, is, and was, simplistic. I struggle with words due to memory loss. I use an app (Poet Assistant, if you're interested) for help finding the right words and what I want to say. My writing, though different, is just as natural and raw.

It is different in several ways as well though. The topics are starting to be more cheerful and fun to read, slightly less painful and depressing topics. That alone is a huge change. In the process of writing and publishing on here, I have found myself pushing past writer's block. That is extremely new for me due to this incredible community.

While I don't think I'm an amazing writer by any means, I do feel as though I have improved at least a little bit. Thank you to everyone who has been so encouraging!
