activism
Feminist activists are not deterred by the daunting statistics so much as they're fueled by them.
The Story of My Life
The following story may get emotional and dark. Viewer discretion is advised. All of the events in this writing are things that really happened to me.

Consent→ When someone agrees, gives permission, or says "yes" to sexual activity with another person. Consent is ALWAYS freely given, never forced. Every person involved in a sexual situation must feel that they are able to say "yes," "no" or be able to stop the sexual activity at any point in time.

I see you. You beautiful, broken girl. I see you walk up the stairs, every step a little bit further away from the monster sitting in the living room. He has the TV up, laughing too loud at a show. The sound sends shivers up your spine and churns your stomach. It's too loud, grating against your ears like nails on a chalk board. It is cartoonish, obtuse—like the designated idiot's laugh on a sitcom might sound. You hate it.

What is sexual violence? Sexual violence has been very well common in previous generations and is unfortunately still a saddening issue that we are faced with.

As we reach the end of 2018, everyone should be familiar with the #metoo movement. Although many believe that the movement is based in showbusiness against people like Harvey Weinstein, it has also deeply rooted itself into politics. From former Senator Al Franken even all the way up the President himself, #metoo has put many males in positions of power under fire. For good reason too. Many men have taken advantage of their power, and our government is no different.
What People Don't Realize About Sexual Assault
This is a topic that I've been hesitant to write about for a while. Every time I think of writing this I always talk myself out of it. I'll tell myself that it isn't important or that people already know everything I am going to say. The problem is, sexual assault is not being talked about enough. For something most women have to worry about on a regular basis, it should be a topic talked about daily. That is not to say that men don't have this problem too, but you would be ignorant to think the statistics don't sway more towards females.

Why the Victims Don't Speak Out
There has been a lot of publicity about historical cases of abuse in the news over recent years and this movement is gathering momentum. That is great to see. Those who commit acts of abuse should absolutely be made to face the consequences of their actions. One thing I can't help but notice is that in every case there seems to be a lot of people in the online space who question the truthfulness of those who come forward to make abuse public on the grounds that those victims didn't speak out immediately after the incident, or during the process of it, if the abuse was long term.

I'm going to keep talking about this since apparently a whole lot of people still don't want to understand, and let me just say that as much as I hate bringing these memories to light, and as much as I hate having to re-live them every day, I think it's important for voices like mine to be heard.

Imagine if you were forced to marry an unknown man or woman just because it's part of your culture, or simply just to follow your parents' wishes. Would you go along with it because it's part of your tradition, or would you stand up for your human rights? Arranged marriages are marriages that are planned by the parents of the bride and groom—in which they have little or no say and their opinions are usually ignored. Child marriage is a form of arranged marriages as female children are paired up with older males by their parents, for their own safety. However, it is seen to be violating human rights, especially women's rights as they deny a girl's right to health, choice, to live free from violent action and education.

In a world where 1/3 of women are sexually assaulted in their lifetimes, being a rideshare driver has always had its risks. I mean, after all, you are letting total strangers into your car late at night, but between my stun gun and the fact that the app tracks you, I haven't been too terribly worried.

I don’t have a romantic story about the first time I had sex. I have a story that will make you cry and rethink everything I’ve ever done that earned your disapproval.
