The collegiate indoor track and field season finished its eighth weekend of action. Check out our honorees who have been named the Track Stars App National Athletes of the Week.
UCLA's Alyssa Wilson wins Don Kirby, second at USA meet
Alyssa Wilson - UCLA - Junior - Weight Throw, Shot Put
Alyssa Wilson had a busy and strong weekend. At the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, she threw a personal best 22.98 which earned a win in the weight throw competition. She went on to compete at the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships where she was a runner-up in the weight throw (22.80) and 10th in the shot put at 16.65.
Taishia Pryce leaps to the top of NCAA long jump rankings
Taishia Pryce - Kansas State - Junior - Long Jump
Jamaican born long jump phenom, Taishia Pryce is now the number one performer in the NCAA with a winning jump of 6.65 at the Tyson Invitational, in Fayetteville, Ark. Her career best jump is currently the seventh best in the world during the indoor season.
UK's Ellen Ekholm, NCAA's high jump leader
Ellen Ekholm - Kentucky - Senior - High Jump
Kentucky senior Ellen Ekholm won in long jump action at Clemson's Tiger Paw Invitational. Her jump of 1.90 is now the best in the NCAA. The Swedish athlete also ranks 19th in the world with her winning mark. Ekholm was the only competitor to clear six-feet at the meet. She has won all five meets that she has competed in this season.
Tonea Marshall continues hurdles dominance
Tonea Marshall - LSU - Senior - 60-Meter Hurdles
LSU's Tonea Marshall is continuing her dominance in the 60-meter hurdles. She currently sits on top of the NCAA rankings with a 7.86 60-meter hurdles performance on Jan. 17. Last weekend she had a 7.89 finish at the Tyson Invitational. Marshall's 7.86 mark is currently tied for the fourth best in the world.
Foster jumps career best, 6.57 in win at Don Kirby
Rhesa Foster - Oregon - Senior - Long Jump
Rhesa Foster's long jump mark of 6.57 at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational currently ranks as third best in the NCAA. The senior is rounding up a quality collegiate career that saw her win last year's outdoor PAC-12 long jump crown along with placing fifth at the 2019 NCAA indoor meet and seventh during the outdoor championships.
Central State's Cartwright top hurdler in NCAA Division II
Denisha Cartwright - Central State - Freshman - 60-Meter Hurdles
Denisha Cartwright is shaking up the world of NCAA Division II track and field. At the GVSU Big Meet Invite in Allendale, Mich, she won both the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles. She also placed third in the 200-meter dash. Cartwright's 60-meter hurdles performance of 8.49 is the best in NCAA Division II. Her 60-meter dash time of 7.48 is currently fourth in NCAA Division II as well.
