Somers Can’t Run Back Comeback versus Suffern
Please see tip, subscribe and pledge button below On Friday February 22, the quarterfinal matchup between Somers and Suffern was a game of runs. After Somers went on a 20-4 outburst to go up 20-8, Suffern countered with a 26-4 scoring spree. Leaving the Tuskers trailing 34-24 in the third, the elephants looked on the verge of being stampeding out of the gym. Instead, said Coach James Loughran, “We never quit.” But despite the senior leadership he credited for the team’s resolve, the hole was just a little too deep.

Winners OnlyPublished about a month ago in UnbalancedEdmonton Was Connor Brown
Last night, something that was simultaneously quite trivial and also monumental took place. The Edmonton Oilers were facing the Washington Capitals. Edmonton was without Mattias Ekholm due to illness, and therefore Troy Stecher, acquired on the cusp of the trade deadline from the Arizona Coyotes, stepped into his role. His performance was lackluster to say the least. Edmonton’s power play performed with considerable gusto to produce the first goal, largely by virtue of the fact that The German Genius, Leon Draisaitl, was granted an improbable trio of attempts to bury his patented one-timer behind Kemper, the Washington gardien de but, and succeeded the third time. That was followed by a goal by St. Connor McDavid, who has seemed more interested in breaking assist records thus far than scoring goals. He was left unmolested by the Washington defense and sauntered in to embarrass Kemper nonetheless. The inscrutable and fickle gods of hockey seemed to be smiling upon Edmonton’s cause.

We had the Vancouver Canucks right where we wanted them! The Colorado Avalanche were coming off a big blowout win over the Calgary Flames to start this four-game road trip, but we could be right back to work, as that was the first game of a back-to-back set. The Avs headed west to face the Vancouver Canucks for the final time this regular season. The Canucks are the #1 team in the entire Western Conference, but the Avs are batting 1.000 against the Nucks this season, having won both meetings. This meeting is the only one in Vancouver, though this could be a playoff preview.

On Friday February 16, John Jay traveled to Nyack for the first round of the sectionals and came off the bus with their engines revving. They ran the break, hit the open player and converted their layups and jumpers. Good for a resounding 24-13 second quarter lead, the wheels on the actual bus looked ready to return home in victory, but Nyack had other ideas.

Click for Slideshow On the John Jay fields of play, if Mia Puccio isn’t moving she’s probably not having fun. So sitting still in the classroom must drive her crazy. But the sedentary change in venue doesn't detract from putting all that kinetic energy to good use. “I like working hard,” said Puccio, and the three-sport athlete has now been rewarded for her drive.

Byram Slideshow On Tuesday February 20, John Jay faced Byram Hills at the Brewster Ice rink and at 6-14, the Wolves were the clear underdogs to the second seed. Still, the boys scored first and held a 2-1 lead deep into the second. So the glass slippers were out for a potential Cinderella run, but in the end, the shine on the Bobcats’ footwear proved too much.
Rich MonettiPublished about a month ago in UnbalancedFanGraphs, We Need to Talk
As you can tell by this picture above, I'm seething with anger. Why is that, you ask? It's because the disrespect of the Texas Rangers never seems to end. The focus of this story is about FanGraphs. If you're not familiar with them, it was created and owned by David Appelman in 2009. Their main focus is providing stats for every player in Major League Baseball. Plus, they have blog posts, provide information about prospects, and more. I've been following their shenanigans ever since the Rangers won the World Series and nearly six months later, the defending champs are still not being shown the respect that they rightfully deserve. This is a team who has swept the Rays and Orioles in the Wild Card and ALDS respectively. Also, they fought hard to beat their rivals, the Houston Astros, in seven games in the ALCS. Finally, they defeated the Diamondbacks in five games to win it all. This was their first ever World Series title in team history, after being so close of winning it over 12 years ago. I've been a fan for over 20 years and it was the best night of my life.
