NFL Week 7 Recap: Shenanigans!!!

Questionable calls tip the scales in a key NFC North matchup, while two unbeatens fall in Week 7

I would give so much for NFL refs to actually be fair to the Packers for once. So much.

I was really excited for this Packers/Lions game, because we entered on a roll, and we could get another statement win here. The game was close throughout, which is no shock. What we also saw: refs sabotaging the Packers, which is also no shock. A lot of the Packers' momentum was destroyed by very questionable calls. One instance: Jared Goff threw his first interception of the season, but it was called back. DPI on Cisse. Here's the thing. Cisse and St. Brown were grabbing each other in the same fashion. There was an instance like that earlier in the game. Refs called nothing. Same should have applied here. And don't get me started on the phantom RTP call. Goff was shoved, yet it was RTP. Love gets tacked late? Nothing.

Lions won 20-17, and yeah, the zebras handed this game to Detroit. However, there is a secondary reason. Dan Campbell did it again, folks. He went for it on 4th and 1 on the wrong 27 yard line (his own), and he was stopped. With the game tied at 17, we were in FG range instantly. Now we should have went for the end zone instantly, but we got too conservative, and the one time we did go for the whole thing, it was a pass to Josh Jacobs (who should not be back). and he dropped it. So we settled for a FG, but Trey Smack missed it. That was his second miss of the game, and they weren't long ones. Dan Campbell gave us this gift, yet we score nothing.

The reason why this frustrated me is because while the Packers had to play against a legit heavyweight, the Vikings and Bears were facing, in the words of the late, great Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, ham and eggers. Week 7 started with the Bears at home against the Patriots in a rematch of Super Bowl XX, a fitting matchup considering that this was the first home game for the Bears following the passing of the iconic Mike Ditka. And just like they did on the evening of January 26, 1986, the Bears dominated the Pats, this time by a score of 30-24. As for the Vikings, they faced off against the Colts. Oh no. A funny thing happened, though: the Colts were actually ahead. It got less funny when the Colts turned over the ball relentlessly, and when Spencer Shrader missed two field goals (he hadn't missed one all year entering that game).

The Vikings won 16-10, so they are still undefeated. Must be nice to play only one real team all season (Packers in Week 1). This is what we have to deal with. We struggle, while our rivals play against also-rans, ham and eggers, and the Colts. But don't fret, after all, Micah Parsons is very, very close to coming back.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints battled it out in France, with the Steelers winning, 16-10, to keep pace in the AFC North. The rest of that division saw the Cincinnati Bengals blast the Lamar-less Ravens, 35-13, and the Browns came back from a 14-0 deficit to beat the hapless Tennessee Titans, 27-24, to remain in first place. The centerpiece of the early window: the Niners finally lost. Brock Purdy proved to the world how totally inept he is, committing turnover after turnover and allowing the Atlanta Falcons to defeat the Niners, 29-20! The rest of the early window saw the Dolphins defeat the Jets for their first win of the season, the Buccaneers absolutely demolished the Carolina Panthers, making things interesting in that NFC South, and the New York Giants won, 27-21, in OT over the Houston Texans, ending the NFC East's dry spell.

The rest of the late window saw the Rams pick up a much needed dominant win over the Raiders, while the Denver Broncos defeated the lifeless Arizona Cardinals. As for Sunday Night Football, the Seattle Seahawks hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in a battle between three of the last four Super Bowl Champions, and speaking of Super Bowls, it was supposed to be a homecoming for Kenneth Walker III--the Chiefs runningback who helped lead the Seahawks to winning Super Bowl LX, and was MVP of said game. Instead, what we saw was the Chiefs absolutely flattened and dominated. Mahomes was terrible, Kelce was a no-show, and best of all, Harrison "Andrew Tate" Butker was missing kicks left and right. The Seahawks won 20-3 over the Chiefs, handing KC their first loss of the season.

As a result, the Minnesota Vikings are the last unbeaten team standing, and they are on '72 Dolphins watch. Here's how much I hate the Chiefs and Niners. I, a Packers fan, should be livid that the Vikings are the only unbeaten team left. But I'm not. This came as a result of the Chiefs and Niners both losing, and honestly, I hate them more than I hate the Vikings. At least with the Vikings, it's the rivalry. It's football only. With the Chiefs and Niners, it's more than that. And regarding the Chiefs, just when they can't get any more deplorable, guess who they signed to fix their kicking problems? Justin Tucker. Yeah. Like having one toxic, cooked kicker wasn't enough for them.

So the NFC East won once this week. Would they win again? Yes, it's a division game, but remember: Giants/Commanders in Week 5. We would see no tie here, though, but this game was closer than I expected. Dallas had to play from behind a few times--not by too much, but they bounced back and went on to win 38-21. This was basically do or die for both teams. The Cowboys and Eagles both entered at 2-4, meaning that whoever lost was pretty much screwed. Dallas' win keeps their hopes alive, and considering that the NFC East is quite screwy, they do have a real legit shot of winning the division.

Week 8 will kick off in Lambeau Field with the Green Bay Packers hosting the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football. As for Sunday Night Football, we are stuck with a "battle" between the 2-5 Philadelphia Eagles and the 1-4-1 Washington Commanders. Monday Night Football is a lot better: the Seattle Seahawks hosting the Chicago Bears.
