10 Things New Teachers Need to Know
You've gone through numerous education courses all showing you how to be the best teacher for your students. But now the day has come — first day of school as a teacher. Even after all those courses, actually being a teacher is totally different from what you've learned in college. Honestly, it's like that for most majors.

For the last several days, my daughter has come home with tales of her school lunch experiences. She has been in school just over a week and already is afraid she will starve during her school day if she doesn’t take her own lunch. Today, for example, she wasn’t even given enough food to keep her body functioning through PE class. I must admit, this broke my heart.

One in 68 children in the United States has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. How many of those students will slip through the cracks? We need to educate our educators. My son has been diagnosed with Asbergers (ASD), conduct/behavior disorder, and severe ADHD. Ah middle school… It all seems so nostalgic and funny now, really. Playing hopscotch, collecting stickers, and drawing dicks. On every surface in our range. See, people often like to forget that particular detail about childhood, because it doesn’t seem very sweet or innocent. But I could not imagine middle school without the image of my class trying to hold in laughter for dear life. Almost suffocating and hiding behind books as the teacher stares in exasperated shock at the penis drawing on the blackboard. And that’s what I loved about middle school — the lessons. Go on, call me a nerd, I dare you. I was never a teacher’s pet or was THAT kid that reminded about homework, but I was that kid that thrived off of the closeness and unity of class shenanigans. It did not matter if you were a ginger, fat, weirdo, nerd, a cool kid, or a prep. The shenanigans was a thing the whole class was in on.
Why Is Pursuing a Higher Education Important?
Many of us graduate from high school, toss our caps into the air, and never pick up another book again. This is bad. I don't know exactly when it happened, but somewhere along the way American society has turned increasingly anti-intellectual — look no further than our president.
