The Writing Teacher. Top Story - August 2024.
Who was your writing teacher in school? Writing is a skill that starts with learning how to hold a pencil or writing instrument. The teacher would go around the room making sure everyone was holding the pencil in the right way whether right-handed or left-handed. We would move on to 'writing' lines (vertical and horizontal, smiles or we called them rockers). After a few weeks of these forms, we moved into learning letters then numbers to cursive writing. The end of the basics and just learning how to combine cursive letters joined together into words and sentences like the old adage 'The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.' to writing our own stories and thanks to my second-grade teacher and the English teachers since then I thank them to showing me the gift of the written word and the skill of handwriting.

My Superhero Origin Story By Hannah Moore. Top Story - August 2024.
This is a true story. What? Nobody said it had to be fiction. I’m a pretty ordinary person. An all-rounder, my teachers said. Shows potential. Well the thing about potential is it’s only possibility, and the thing about all-rounders is they excel at nothing. Don’t get me wrong, it makes life pretty…. adequate. I’m rarely terrified of losing my job, for example, because I believe I can secure another one before we starve, even if it wouldn’t be my first choice. It’s never my first choice.

scratches in my mind - even misery.... Top Story - August 2024.
even misery its contemptibility hates your company * Thanks for reading! Author's Notes: I was thinking of the famous phrase "misery loves company" and then thought about tipping it...because sometimes...when I'm at my lowest, I think even misery hates my company. Curiously, the image was created by putting the full senryu into NightCafe's prompt box. Felt it was very fitting. I also felt it fit in with the scratches in my mind series.

The Ones That Got Away. Top Story - August 2024.
When I attended high school in Macon, Georgia I quickly made a new friend. She was bright, vivacious and had a great sense of humor. She had jet black, curly hair, blue eyes lit with mischief and an infectious smile. The best way to describe her was “petite voluptuous”. No matter where we went together, she was the life of the party and people, (especially guys), seemed drawn to her.
