The Table 2. Top Story - September 2024.
An empty table where are the people to enjoy the space. (An empty table could mean a lot of things to me. One reason for an empty table is because there is no family. Another reason for an empty table there could be no food, but still another reason for an empty table could be that no care to show up just to be together food or no food. A table's purpose to bring together those who care and share what is important with one another. I know in today's society its main purpose is to be a vehicle to serve and eat food with very little meaningful conversation except for maybe 'Pass the butter." or "Pass the ketchup." No one really shares their day around the table anymore maybe because they are so busy from school and work and other activities. There is one day or two that there is that allows for conversation even though there is a lot of passing around of food. One just has to listen to the others around the table.)

The Woman in the Cafe. Top Story - September 2024.
The bell jingles against the door as yet another person walks into the cramped cafe. Unlike some of the others coming in on their lunch break, she comes in with a genuine smile, brightening up the space and I'm sure the barista's day. Poor girl has had a line of sour people today.

I made my bed and slept in it. I insisted on a thread count of 500, at least. And none of that two-ply stuff. I felt I deserved it. I wanted the finer things in life, and I achieved them per every square inch. I slept well. As I slept on, day after day, year after year, and epiphany after epiphany, I self-educated on the important things in life in my night-by-night respite.

Sometimes it can be for convenience, time restraint, or even aerophobia/ fear of flying. For whatever the reason, Janie found herself travelling on the same Greyhound bus ride that night as the two elderly women she watched from the seat she had taken behind theirs. They looked to both be grandmothers.

Meet Gnocchi, my beloved English Bulldog, who has a larger-than-life personality packed into a squat, muscular frame. Gnocchi is obsessed with an array of peculiar things: from balls that he chases with the enthusiasm of a puppy, to plush sloths that he cuddles with as if they were his best friends. He’s even got a thing for pool noodles, which he drags around the house like they’re his prized possessions. But above all, Gnocchi’s greatest love is food. This boy is always hungry, no matter how elaborate or frequent his meals.

I like it here. Big trees. There’s the wood, I like it there as well, but I like it here. Gaps between the trees. Grass and soil and the bird bath. I like it best when they’re not here. The people. The dog. There’s a cat, sometimes, on his way elsewhere. I like him least of all. And squirrels. Bothersome squirrels.
