Silent is the Night. Top Story - November 2024. Content Warning.
This is a tough time of year. It's been so long since his last feeding, and worse, he still has several weeks to wait. They stretch in front of him, yawning wide and black with needle-teeth of hunger pains. The weather turns, and the cold deepens. The night dark pulls in, squeezing the daylight hours like a fat man pulling in his belly to edge through a tight space. These things only sharpen his appetite even further. The coloured lights strung up all over town are switched on. Their cheery twinkle is reflected in every pair of eyes, both innocent and cynical. Another reminder of how close (and how far!) he is from satisfying his hunger. He glares at them. His bowlful of jelly grumbles. Ahh the little tots, they are so soft and warm in his lap! The scent of them rises up from those adorable heads, with their curls, their mops, their pigtails and braids. He breathes it in and savours it, the buttery sweet smell of them. His hands twitch, how badly he wants to crush and twist, and slurp and chew and crunch... Their screams, just as delicious, a fine accompaniment to wash it all down.

Book Review: "The Wall" by Marlen Haushofer. Top Story - November 2024.
I am happy to say that recently I returned from my hometown of Birmingham (as of writing this review, it is the 3rd of November). When there, I visited some old haunts such as the bookshop where I picked up a copy of The Wall by Marlen Haushofer. I had never heard of this book in my life but I liked the depiction of existentialism which highlighted the book cover. I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover and so I read the blurb just in case. I was sold.

Making a list? Checking it twice? Old Saint Nick has sent a memo to several social media platforms wanting acknowledgement. Apparently he has updated his To Do and Not To Do lists. It's obvious he is hooked on updating his image, reshaping his game and considering shaving his beard of all things. Of course there's more to every story and I have been shovelled the task of investigating his identity crisis. Like I have nothing better to do than catch a flight up to the North Pole with two lame knees and a peanut allergy.

The challenges we face, are not meant to break us, they are opportunities to be welcomed, for under the pressure of these challenges it brings out the most primal part of ourselves, which can be on many occasions, the side of ourselves, that we may not have even known was there, and if we were un aware of such a side to our own individual uniqueness, than it stands to reason that others would most likely not be privy to the knowledge that such a side of us exists.

Watching Twilight For The First Time. Top Story - November 2024.
This is sort of weird for what an avid reader of young adult fiction I was back in my teens, but I never actually read much of Stephanie Meyer’s famous Twilight. I briefly borrowed one of the books from my cousin, skimmed a few pages, and then gave it back because I didn’t like it. And that’s where it ended for me.

Wanderer. Top Story - November 2024.
Some people have told me that I’m this way because I was born under a wandering star. Others say my name, Cain, has cursed me to roam the Earth just as the first person that bore this name was. I’m not sure if one theory or the other is right. Maybe they are both right, but probably neither one is correct. I am more like a magnet that hasn’t been able to find that special piece of metal to attach myself to. I’m searching for that unique attraction that doesn’t seem to exist, no matter where I look, and it probably never will. So, I continue to wander.

2025 better be good to my family. I had a trying year. 2024 was a one of the hardest years of my life. This past year, I brought a new little one into our home. He has so much personality now and he truly was the perfect addition to our family. My two older kiddos are smitten with him.
