Late Fame. Top Story - September 2026.
My sister once told me that she couldn’t watch a film with Leonardo Di Caprio because his face annoyed her. She found his eyes scary and he reminded her of a school bully. I thought this frankly ridiculous. DiCaprio can act and his environmental activism should help secure a future for the planet his girlfriends will live on.

Groove. Top Story - September 2026.
He collected vinyl records. He ditched his collection for CDs years ago, but when he played his first song on CD, "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who, it blasted out of the speakers with no warning. He realised that a vinyl record, however perfect, always had surface noise when the needle hit the vinyl, so you always knew something was coming, like the vibration of a rail when a train is on the way.

Proud to Be a Kidult. Top Story - September 2026.
Whenever an adult likes things from their childhood, such as toys and trading cards, most people would call them "childish" or that they need to "grow up". I've heard those things many times from others and I never cared about if they found my interests weird or unusual. As an autistic adult, I've always liked action figures or any toys I grew up playing. Adults in general who enjoy those things don't mean that something is wrong with them mentally. It gives them comfort and a sense of ease. We all have our vices, and no one should be shamed for them. The term kidult and the trend of kidulting isn't a new trend. The former term dates back to the 1950s when adults enjoyed shows that were geared towards children.

The perfect sunrise. Top Story - September 2026.
The summer had finally arrived and everyone was looking forward to the usual warm weather and sunny days that lay ahead. Long days of sitting out on the beach while watching the sunset, late night strolls through the park, cicadas buzzing off somewhere in the darkness...just to name a few expected scenes.

10 Miles to October. Top Story - September 2026.
I went to October by way of the mountain, taking the road I used to take as a boy, though the road had changed since those days and I had changed enough to notice. The pasture had gone brown after the summer, and the apples were dropping beneath the trees.

growth, then decay, then transformation. Top Story - September 2026.
Yes, the title is a Breaking Bad reference. Sue me. Hello, Vocal family! It’s been a couple of months—well, half a year, actually—since I’ve written anything on here, but I’ve finally found my way back. I’ve missed this community so much, and I just wanted to write a quick little piece before I jump back into writing and reading and talking with you all again :)

Aurelius Ascends. Top Story - September 2026.
Aurelius Ascends had spent the best part of fifteen years shifting from a single figment of a dream to a glossy digital image on a one-hundred-inch computer screen, eventually realized by SpaceCorp's head designer, Lisa Scanlon, and put on the drawing board.

She Flew Away. Top Story - September 2026.
Every spring there I have a visitor. She has a long slim neck, sharp facial features decorated with the softest edges you'll ever see, and she's a terrible singer. Though each summer, once she's gone, I do ache in the silence. For the most part she wanders the back edge of my too-large for me property, every now and then I take my morning walk a little too close and she lectures me and moves back farther.

Love In Flames. Top Story - September 2026.
The background photo was taken when wildfires raged across Los Angeles in January 2025, killing 31 people and levelling thousands of buildings. The fires were caused by environmental factors like drought and severe wind gusts, compounded by human choices around water supplies, urban planning, and firefighting budget cuts. In contrast, the caption is an adaption of the classic “what if we kissed…” template from the deep-fried meme era of the late 2010s and the happy absurdity popular at the time. Together, the elements create a nostalgic sense of joyful irreverence juxtaposed with the disaster; finding a little whimsy in the face of desolation.

This Is the End. Top Story - September 2026.
This Is the End By Corey Harland She walked without much attention to where she was going. The sidewalk was familiar enough that her feet handled most of the work themselves. One hand held her phone while the other occasionally disappeared into her coat pocket as she moved beneath the streetlights.
