We Need To Stop Cancelling Cartoons And Quit Ignoring What's Actually Wrong With Society.

Societal Safety, Mental Health & Healthcare, and Our Leadership.

Have you ever been afraid of walking home alone at night?

Ever needed to go a Dr or Dentist and couldn't afford it?

Do you have a family member with a mental health problem that has shown to be increasingly difficult to obtain help for?

Ever lost someone you love to the hands of another?

Experienced racism or discrimination because of your sexual orientation, chosen gender, size, or skin color?

At least two of the above apply to myself , if I'm being honest all but one.

So why are we so caught up in cancel culture that we are canceling cartoons while remaining silent and okay with how society is.

We can't watch a confused skunk chase a cat but by all means, chase a woman down the street in the dark of night, then let the authorities tell us, women, to

Stay Inside If You Want To Remain Safe.

Why is that always the answer to female violence.

If you don't want to be raped. Don't wear skirts or dresses. The fact that our clothing really shouldn't matter or be a case of discussion but the self-control of the individual who can't control themselves should be.

If a lesbian can control herself around a group of bikini clad or "half-dressed" women then why can't a man?

What about wearing an article of clothing says

I am asking for non-consensual touch/sex.

What about clothing or lack there of says

I deserve to be raped.

The short answer is it doesn't.

The even shorter answer is that it is way easier to blame the victim than it is to admit that there are dark, evil, uncontrollable people on this planet that our government leaders, our police, and many others seem to see more important to protect or too much of an inconveince to see that the justice that is needed and deserved gets enacted.

We are taught from a young age how to act in front of men, how to dress in front of men, how to talk, how to cross to the other side of the street, to carry weapons, hidden tracking jewelry, carry pepper spray, take defense classes and more.

While there is nothing wrong with learning to defend oneself why are all of this put on women and young girls.

We are already told often enough by the media and society that you are your looks then we wonder why young girls and their mothers are depressed. Equally wondering why eating disorders or mental health /illnesses amongst teens is rising.

Even at 29, I struggle to grasp how and why this is so much on women but there is very little concentration on teaching men and young men or boys to do and be better.

Even scarier is sometimes the people we are told to go to aren't any better than the ones we are running from.

Two studies have found that at least 40% of police officer families experience domestic violence, in contrast to 10% of families in the general population the National Center for Women & Policing says. A third study of older and more experienced officers found a rate of 24%, indicating that domestic violence is 2-4 times more common among police families than American families in general.

Before you get upset at that inclusion this article isn't designed or meant to degrade the police, defund the police or be anti-police.

Just like there are good and bad people in our world there are good and bad cops and even this statistic proves that the good outweighs the bad and hopefully with some time and education, we can make it a full 100% good.

This though ties into Mental Health below.

Women aren't the only ones at risk though, The 2019 hate crimes data, submitted by 15,588 law enforcement agencies, provide information about the offenses, victims, offenders, and locations of hate crimes. Of these agencies who submitted incident reports, there were 7,314 hate crime incidents involving 8,559 offenses. Sadly, 2020 has already seen at least 44 transgender or gender non-conforming people fatally shot or killed by other violent means, the majority of which were Black and Latinx transgender women. I say at least because too often these stories go unreported -- or misreported.

Now no one is saying you have to like someones gender or gender identification, but at the very least you can respect them as a person. You can treat them the same as anyone else. You don't have to hang out with them or be friends with them even though oftentimes they make the best of friends. You do not however, need to call them disgusting names , treat them badly / differently than someone else or assault them. It is vehomently unesscary/unacceptable and only shows that your the one with the issue, not them.

The U.S Society & Mental Health

Mental illnesses are common in the United States. Nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (51.5 million in 2019)

Shockingly a majority of police officers face alcohol abuse, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and even suicidal thoughts.

While depression and PTSD are more understandable, suicide is what has alarmed most.

It’s surprising to learn those police officers, the communities safekeepers, often have suicidal thoughts.

It’s even more surprising to learn that of police officers, 1 in 4 has considered committing suicide. More officers die from suicide than they do in the line of duty, again very alarming.

It's estimated that more than 90% of law enforcement agencies in the U.S. require psychological screening of their applicants, either before or after receiving a conditional offer of employment. Only about 65% of agencies use polygraph exams, and 88% also employ drug screening.

However, receiving mental health care after that is oftentimes a vastly different story.

Police officers are required to not take certain medications or have some medications in their systems for their and the public safety. The most common being strong painkillers and benzodiazepines. However, this can also in some cities and states include anti-depressants or anxiety medications. Some officers are put on leave until they "Finish their treatment"

If you've ever had anxiety and depression you probably already know neither of those things just go away.

The general public and society are in need of mental health help as well though.

Approximately 20 percent of inmates in jails and 15 percent of inmates in state prisons have a serious mental illness.

According to a 2015 assessment by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States. At a minimum, 140,000 or 25 percent of these people were seriously mentally ill, and 250,000 or 45 percent had any mental illness.

Perhaps even more bleak and related to healthcare, in general, is that....

Nearly 1 in 4 Americans are skipping medical care because of the cost

National Healthcare Could Happen but 1/2 Our Leaders Just Don't Want It Too

Our government leaders have no issue discussing or funding plans for navy airplanes we don't even need. $19.5 Billion to be exact.

We already had 3,900 grounded flight ready planes but why not nestle that into that second pandemic bill. The pandemic bill was needed the planes and $2.5billion for space force was not.

Especially when we look at the cost of operation for that. Although the cost to buy has come down, the cost to fly remains high.

The F-35 costs $44,000 an hour to fly, or $44 million to fly for 1,000 hours, or $352 million over the 8,000 hour lifespan of the jet. That's more than twice as much as other jets such as the F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and F/A-18 Super Hornet.

Our government leaders have no issue in enacting tax breaks that benefit the wealthy or accepting donation's from large pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, and even healthcare companies as long as it means they don't have to share any of that money and I'm sure all those donations come with stipulations. Like keeping laws the same or at the very least keeping them to the benefit the company more than the people in America who pay these leaders their actual salary.

To paint a small picture of these generous "donations" major pharmaceutical companies and their trade groups spent at least $47.7 million dollars on lobbying in the first quarter of 2020.

Meanwhile the amount the fossil fuel industry spent during the 113th Congress (2013 & 2014) on contributions to Congress’ campaigns: $42,373,561

Oil, Gas, and Coal lobbying total 2013: $156,776,386

Oil, Gas, and Coal lobbying total 2014 : $151,437,335

Oh and don't worry they get the money back and then some. In fact, they make BANK. On these "donations"

I'd like to take this moment to remind the United States and anyone reading this that it took them until

December of 2020 to fix the Flint Michigan Water . (click here to read more on this issue )

One way to determine if a political party cares about people like you is to see if they have any interest in whether you have access to quality, affordable health care. If they’re indifferent to whether you live or die, that’s a good indicator that they’re not on your side. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is a member of the Republican Party, and he could not be more clear that he has no interest in health care as a topic other than for its potential as a political weapon against the Democrats.

Of course I wouldn't ever expect anyone with a net world of $22.5 million dollars to understand or even partially comprehend paying for insurance on an average salary of $34,000.00 a year. Especially seeing as prior to lobbying or donations most senators and representatives make an annual salary of $174,000. Those in leadership make a bit more. For example, the speaker of the House makes $223,500 and majority and minority leaders in the House and Senate make $193,400

Let us not forget that in most health plans you pay about $250 a month, normally more, for a health plan that will require a co-pay ($10,$15 or $25 ) at every visit while also limited what they do or don't cover. In some cases denying medication that is life-saving or covering one brand but not another then saying

Too bad that is an you problem, not an us problem.

Anyone remember when epi-pen prices shot up? I know I do because I'll die without one if I'm stung by a wasp or fed a jalapeno and don't know it until I need the epi-pen.

This is just a small example and not the best one. A better one is that there are hundreds if not thousands of americans who experience the fear of dying every week or month from diabetes. One vial of human insulin costs $2.28-$3.42 to produce, and one vial of analog insulin costs $3.69-$6.16 to produce.

Meanwhile the Average price per dispenser or package

  • Humulin R vial (10 mL; 100 iU/mL) $0.19 $185.27 per vial
  • Humulin R KwikPen (3 mL; 500 iU/mL) $0.24 $712.38 per carton of 2 pens
  • NPH insulin
  • Novolin N FlexPen (3 mL carton; 100 iU/mL) $0.13 $189.16 per carton of 5 pens

Photo by Mykenzie Johnson on Unsplash

These prices lead to what is known as insulin rationing , something that led to 4 confirmed deaths in 2019 and a unknown , unreported number in 2020. The results of a study published last year from authors at Yale Diabetes Center suggest that rationing is more common than the healthcare system wants to admit. Senior author Kasia Lipska, MD, MHS, says the findings raise a whole new set of questions. (you can read that by clicking here ) and while yes some insurances do cover insulin and the items you need some don't or some cover 1 brand and not the brand you need and offer no flexibility.

Universal healthcare & mental health care is just the tip of the ice-berg .

We havn't even touched base on how flawed womens healthcare is. Not to mention the people who already aren't qualified to talk about what the average american can or can't afford love to put their noses in this discussion.

I've always had a pretty straight forward view on healthcare.

Anyones health should be between them and their dr and your reproductive choices should be your own choice or discussed with a partner.

So why are 70 year old men who love to tote freedom and freedom of religion always trying to force the entire US population into following and believing their religion . Of course that's the only thing they want to follow their religion for. When we start talking about selling our daughters into slavery , wearing mixed clothing or working on sabbath all of which have pretty dire consequences and are absolutely absurd. Just as absurd as the run around women get about their reproductive care.

See we are given birth control but obtaining it costs money and isn't always easy. Then there are the slew of side effects, the fact that birth control isn't one size fits all and anyway in pharmaceutical knows that it essentially for most people wrecks havoc on our bodies. Including but not limited too mood swings, acne , severe weight gain , naseau , hair loss and more.

Don't worry though you can go spend more money on a office visit. Maybe get one that works, but if youre under 30 , have less than 3 kids or your hospital is catholic ran / religious don't hold your breathe on requesting a tubal litigation. I was refused/denied myself over 8 times, from the age of 22 to now. I've been on over 11 different birth controls including nexplanon which broke in my arm and took me forever to convince a dr to remove. (click here to read the story I wrote discussing this experience and birth control for women more in depth)

So if it is not society, our leadership or our healthcare giving us a hard time , its the Dr's themselves.

Then heaven forbid you get pregnant and admit you can't afford it because then we are right back at square one. Where women are told this is our fault. "We should of kept our legs closed. "

Where is the male responsiblity and why is so hard to push some of it on them?

Rather is healthcare, reproduction , violence against women or other individuals it doesn't matter it seems that since I was young the same thing has been echoed back over and over again.

It's your fault

It's womens fault

I'm sorry excuse you ?

Yes society I'm talking to you .

All these issues are why I personally think our leaders are afraid of and so depserate to pit Millenials and Gen Z against one another. Collectively we are the largest of generations that could make real change. Change that could make things so much safer and better for both genders of individuals and those who identify differently.

It is 2021 women shouldn't still be afraid to walk at night, the lgbtq+ community shouldn't be fearful for their lives, women shouldn't still be fighting for our rights to dictate our own healthcare and most importantly we shouldn't feel as if its us vs them all the time. Why can't we do both teach women how to handle themselves in the front of a bad person man or woman and teach men to do better?

While I firmly believe we are flawed in our soceity of pushing blame on women while allowing our leaders to metophorically screw us all its not just women that need help. Everyone does.

We need to de-normalize hate again.

We need to de-normalize having men be in charge of womens healthcare and vice versa

We need to de-normalize destroying our ecosystems and environment to try and get ahead in big oil just because we are too scared or inane to try and be globally green or conscientious.

We need to de-normalize the woman or our clothing being the cause of rape.

We need to de-normalize pulling young girls out of school clases because our dresses are above the knee or our shoulders are too distracting. Sorry our collarbones are just so erotic you can't control your mini man in your pants.

We need to de-normalize the rich getting richer while the poor get poorer. (Yes you should have to pay more in taxes if you make more money.) That's how its suppose to work. When it did work like that we did amazing things. We built schools, we helped our communities, we funded programs and made national parks.

We have lost site of what America is and was suppose to be.

We are forgetting to be grateful for what we have and take care of those around us. Including the very people we got our land from. We have treated Natives like a pest that we can't control or get rid of and have forgotten we wouldn't be here without them or our ancestors who slaughtered a good majority of THEIR people, and our disrespect has continued as we have broken treaties, seized land and even moved man camps nearby that have contributed to missing, and murdered indigenious people.

It might not be your mom , dad, sister, brother ,grandma, grandpa aunt or uncle that needs help today or right now.

It could be tomorrow though.

I imagine you'd want that help there for them, it should be there for everyone.

If we stopped being so quick to ok large purchases or funding for things we don't need we could of had universal healthcare a long time ago.

The sad truth is , is that universal healthcare doesn't help or benefit our politicians , it doesn't help or benefit our pharmaceutical & healthcare companies either. Due to that, they don't want to help us because it doesn't help them get rich. Almost identical to the reasons that a vast majority of our leadership is against the climate act, a green deal or anything that has to do with protecting and preserving our land , eco-systems and environement for the future generations. It also doesn't help that a good portion of them don't beleive in science.

A prime example as too why we need term limits for congress the house and other leadership.

It's time we stop paying attention to a confused french skunk and start paying attention to what actually matters and is happening in and to society, besides, there is far worse out there than a french skunk or Peter Pan. Making us look left while they are working to the right. Climate change, mental health &healthcare as well as societal safety are such bigger on-going issues. Yet we are busy cancelling cartoons acting like thats going to fix society and our problems.

You have to admit though, its a good distraction from the actual issues thought, right?

This music video was released Oct 25, 2009 . It was vastly ignored and honestly should of been more widely accepted. If you watch it you will see a lot of facts cross the screen that the band created. It is so true and needed in todays society. Of course a song and this article don't fix these issues but maybe it will get people thinking and start trying to help fix the issues we all face.

if you read to this point thank you and I hope you enjoyed it ! You can heart this and share it if you would like and its always apperciated !
