The Many Conflicting Feelings of Watching Today's Impeachment Trial
I'm an American millennial, raised on stories of people huddling around tv sets to watch the first space flights. All my life, I've been told by those people that we should be proud to be American, grateful to be born here.
FrayingPagesPublished 3 years ago in The SwampThe Premature Call for Peace and Unity in America Won't Happen Anytime Soon
Republicans responsible for sedition now want ‘unity’. The Washington Post It’s only been a week since a violent mob of hundreds of American citizens proudly ransacked the US Capitol. Five lives were lost and as of today, less than 100 have been arrested with many more expected.
Dear Donald,
When you took office four years ago, I watched my students struggle as they listened to people chanting ‘build the wall’. The children I teach are primarily Hispanic/Latinx and they went from being worried about what kinds of anger had arisen during the campaign to watching people they didn’t know screaming invectives at them and degrading every part of who they are simply because they weren’t born in this country. I watched the shock, dismay, and actual fear that my 13-year-olds were feeling show on their faces.

On Wednesday 6th January 2021, a armed, frenzied and violent militia stormed the Capitol building, not only in protest to, but with the mission to stop the ratification of a legally binding, bi-partisan vote. Why? Some say they believe the election was stolen from President Donald J Trump, as part of a complex plot involving voting machines, mail in ballots, stopping and starting counting and Hugo Chavez brother. On the surface it looks inocuous, after all, we're all suseptible to believe things that fit with 'our side' and our world view.
Dear Donald Trump...
So, Don...Donny....Donald J...the D-man. We've had quite the 4 years, haven't we? All I can say is, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???
Chris HearnPublished 3 years ago in The SwampDouble Dose of Impeachment
This morning, 9am eastern time, the U.S. House of Representatives convened to begin a vote to impeach Donald J. Trump for inciting the violence that unfolded in front of the world last Wednesday. Those who support the president engaged in seditious activities as the mob of domestic terrorists stormed the Capitol and endangered the hundreds of lives in the building. Reports show that the mob had access to nearly every room in the Capitol after all members of Congress were evacuated to secure unmarked locations. Before the congress people were able to evacuate, the terrorists were already inside the building which resulted in the Secret Service barricading the doors to the chamber of the House with their guns drawn. The terrorists made it into both cambers of Congress to continue to damage and even broke into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office to leave a threatening message. In addition to the terrorists, a pipe bomb was found inside the Capitol along with similar ones found at the RNC and DNC headquarters. A total of 61 arrests have been made with about half of those occurring on Capitol grounds last Wednesday, however most of the charges are not directly related to the attempted coup.

By Bashir Muhammad Akinyele “And when I speak, I don't speak as a Democrat. Or a Republican. Nor an American. I speak as a victim of America's so-called democracy. You and I have never seen democracy - all we've seen is hypocrisy. When we open our eyes today and look around America, we see America, not through the eyes of someone who has enjoyed the fruits of Americanism. We see America through the eyes of someone who has been the victim of Americanism. We don't see any American dream. We've experienced only the American nightmare.”

Before I start, I realize I have no chance of winning since you need to be in the pockets of mega donors. It is true I did not get the best grades in college and had to repeat a few classes since science is very difficult. Psychology and Abnormal Psychology were easy. They do not compare to the major sciences such as Biology (my major), chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering and many more. I have stated before that if your major has the word studies in it then it is not a real major and I still stand by that but I need to clarify something: if the class you are taking has the word studies in it then that is fine and if that contradicts anything I said before then what I say now stands.
Ferrari KingPublished 3 years ago in The SwampThe Myth Of Meritocracy
Written by: TJ Hyland - January 10, 2021 I want to talk about the Meritocracy that we live in, how it's related to our belief in a higher power, and why it's such a pervasive concept and a sham. Meritocracy is a social system where success and status depend on the individual's talents, abilities, and effort. It's supposed to be a system where elevation happens because of personal merit. If you can't explain why something is without referring to omniscience, that thing doesn't exist. Omniscient creators as a concept was created by those who sought to consolidate power, and rules from a higher power were the excuses they used to explain away the injustice that others feel when they are suffering in poverty. A higher power is the ultimate appeal to authority that can never be surpassed. An omniscient magical all-powerful ruler is like that argument we had as kids where we cry out, times 1 million, times 1 trillion, "times infinity!" because nothing tops infinity.
SNROCINUTAFPublished 3 years ago in The SwampRefusing to accept democracy
Refusing to accept democracy Is this the death of democracy? The refusing to accept democratic decisions is going to destroy democracy itself. From Brexit to Trump. From Corbyn and Momentum to reclaim the streets, from Black lives matter to extinction rebellion. Protests and demonstration against a democratically arrived at decision, are gaining strength and power. This will end in the destruction of democracy itself. Why would anyone want a democratically arrived at result when this result will lead to bloodshed, violence and destruction? What will emerge is a fascist dictatorship; because the leader will promise an end to the protests, riots and the arrogant chicanery of the “establishment” such as that which tried so hard to prevent Brexit.

The world is in pain and how do you fix it? How do we all move forward when so much is still unresolved? No matter what political side you are on, no matter what religion or ethnicity you are it's 2021 we should be much father along in equality and unity then we actually are. In fact 2020 seems to have torn us all apart even more right now.
A dark day in democracy
In the middle of the 21st century, there are stories of a sultan's mercenaries breaking into a palace in the middle of the night to kill the sultan and name the new sultan in the morning.
