Congress Needs a Big Change

Congress in Crisis

The pandemic has caused many issues around the world and in the United States people are about to be evicted and landlords are struggling to keep their heads above water.

We are seeing stocks do well and the housing market is looking at a shortage of properties, so it has become a seller’s paradise. Does all this sound familiar? It should because this is what happened right before the worse housing collapse back in the George W days.

While people are suffering from rising prices and catching up with their income Congress sits by and plays politics with people’s lives at stake.

How many proposals have we seen for a stimulus package that is linked to other legislation?

I have been an elected official in the past and believe there should be a separate package for each piece of legislation. The process needs to be simplified and each proposal stands on its own merit without complicating it with other legislation.

Congress’s job is to represent us, the people, and they are doing just the opposite because they are following the party line and purposely complicating the issue with controversial proposals that need to be debated, modified, and then passed on its own merit.

It is not one party causing the problem but the entire Congress that is just playing politics and trying to one-up the other party. Folks get off your fat wallets and do what we elected you to do and stop playing with our lives.

I can get along without the stimulus but there are people out there that are depending on that stimulus that was promised.

That brings me to the Social Security promise. The promise was to increase Social Security by 200.00 a month. This probably still does not bring Social Security recipients above the poverty level but does help them tremendously. Most will not have to decide between food or medications with an extra 200.00 in their check.

The government has “stolen” trillions from the Social Security fund and has never paid it back. It is time to start paying it back and stop scamming the people and taking money that was promised to them. I have worked hard over the years and contributed to the betterment of my community as have millions of others on Social Security and what they receive in return does not even bring them above the poverty level in many cases.

As I see the problem, it is the fat cats in Congress who need to be removed. The first name that comes to mind is Mitch McConnell who has done nothing but block progress for the last 6 years. Congress needs to be completely replaced with new blood, new ideas, and representation for the people. In addition, the corporate lobbyist money needs to be reigned in. There are not many congresspeople who have not been bought by corporate lobbyists and this needs to be stopped.

Corporations do not have loyalty to the public and could care less when a senior or a person with a serious illness cannot pay for their medications or afford to put food on the table. They only care about the bottom line and are raking in record profits at the expense of the public.

When we make some positive changes in Congress that’s when We The People will be represented once again by our elected officials.

They say write your congressman. That is a real joke because they hardly ever see your letters and those letters go to someone who toes the party line and may respond with a generic canned letter that your congressman has never seen.

We The People want to see changes. We need to start with voting out those currently in Congress that do not represent the people that elected them.

Put people before party.
