Organizing New Orleans

Why is it important to build equity in New Orleans?

Be the difference you want to see.

People should all know that you can't spell unity without these keys , You & I.

You , are the innovators of understanding. Understanding is the way to finding peace in the midst of any chaos and all confusion. Confusion can only exist when lies are formed to shadow the truth of shame, guilt, or envy of selfish egos from trustworthy hearts. These truths are what keep people from having true love and true joy, happiness isn't for truth and truth isn't finding happiness. Truth is finding Righteousness and Deliverance of Justice on to the backs of the wicked natured and evil hearted who's intentions are to cause chaos and start confusion. Happiness is having peace in the midst of the chaos dispite the intention of liars due to their lack of understanding. Wisdom is knowing understanding.

I, am the one who will seek to understand how to become wise, not in my own eyes, vanity or ego, but in the eyes of my mothers, fathers and sons and daughters, in the eyes, ears, and mouths of my community, colleagues and strangers to my hometown. To the forefathers of my family and most high abiding in the light of the heavenly kingdom, shall I receive guidance, perseverance and strength to endure through the many trails in my search for knowledge and wisdom. Wisdom is knowing how to find happiness.

Together, we have the right, power, and duty to protect our the most important components of our productive

The city of New Orleans has had one of the highest rates of gun violence in the nation for many decades, yet it has no comprehensive care model for serving the survivors of gun violence. While there are several community based violence prevention programs throughout the city, none are focused on the unique needs of residents who have been injured and survived gun violence, in some cases, with serious permanent physical and emotional trauma. And, things are getting worse, not better. In the first quarter of 2017, the city has already had over 100 shootings, more than any year since 2010. Criminologists and researchers theorize that violent crime is steadily increasing, and that those injured by violence have long been invisible and forgotten. The injured constitue an emergent patient demographic with unique and complex needs. (Lee; Van Brocklin, Santoro)

Whole Hearted Care LLC, (work in progress), would be a independent patient support service that is specifically tailored to the needs of victims and survivors of gun and domestic violence. We have been inspired to create WHC both from personal experience and from long term ethnographic research, which suggests that the majority of gun violent injured patients receive little to no psychological or emotional support, peer mentorship, or post rehabilitation community support. We recognize that while trauma specialists and surgeons save lives in some of the most miraculous ways, treating a gun violence injured patient’s body and not the whole person is half-hearted. Recognizing the lack of emotional and community support for patients with violently acquired injury, we aim to bring whole hearted care to the most underserved populations primarily through chaplaincy and peer mentorship. We belive that any amount of time spent focusing solely on the well-being and recovery of each patients is time well spent.

An artist movement is another way to get a hold of change in New Orleans. A collaboration of independently contracted visual artists working on replacing the oppressive and divisive images of the city's current erected art pieces to that of unity and progression. The artists will work on art projects around the city that will enlighten onlookers to the progressions of America in ending the racism, sexism, prejudice, supremacy, and inequality that once plague OUR country. These pieces of art will be of symbols, historical figures, and quotes from the many different ethics who lives were devoted to unity and equal rights for ALL Americans. Art pieces will be a variety of mediums ranging from but not limited to murals, sculptures, and signs that do not reflect the bias opinions of any particular ethic group, religion , social class, or political party. These artists will be selected individually to build a team, lead work on these projects, and host presentation explaining the unity and equalities represented in the completed masterpieces. Funding for this project will go towards art supplies, equipment, tools , artist stipends, and health resources to ensure that the goal of the project is meant.

The goal of the project is to create a community of people who feel free from fear of oppression in opportunities andprogressive endeavors in society as citizens due to racism, sexism, prejudice, supremacy, and inequality by providing a renewal of hope and faith in liberty and justice reassured by the artists reflection of the change within each art piece.

Many businesses in the tourist industry of New Orleans profit heavily from unorganized communities in poverty. Through out the recent years, I have done work on many expensive tourist attractions and festivals that are common to New Orleans; for some reason I could never seem to get a firm understanding as to how so much revenue could be generated from each attraction brought into and hosted by the city yet so many communities are riddled with blighted house and disadvantage residents. There are often ads for temporary or seasonal employment for local residents normally paying the minimum wage for the position that they are hiring for. Even though the hours and task required for the position oftentimes then not are physically demanding and mentally draining, most people are systematic forced to comply due to lack of local residents having a voice in access for better resources and jobs.
