The Beginner's Guide to Free Speech
If you’ve been following the news lately, you probably already know that Donald Trump has been permanently suspended from Twitter. On January 8, 2021, the social media company posted the following statement to their blog:
Katherine J. ZumpanoPublished 3 years ago in The SwampThe Conservative Contradiction
There are very few people in Western capitalist societies, I would allege, that would disagree with a simple observation: Orwellian allusions are the great cliché of our times. At present, it is conservatives who retread those familiar steps to the well of '1984' and 'Animal Farm', bucket scraping violently against the gravel bottom as they reach that exhausted font. The storming of the Capitol in the United States has provoked many consequences for the purveyors of conservative thought; by virtue of their relative ascendance in political life, those same consequences have, unfortunately, a filtered effect on the rest of us. But there is one outcome which has filled the mouths and minds of talking heads across the globe: the President of the United States has been permanently banned from Twitter.
Reagan Scott WardPublished 3 years ago in The SwampFriendly Politics?
Can we talk about what politics has done to friendships for a sec, please? Let's face it, we've gotten closer to each other virtually, due to social distancing and stay-at-home orders, that we end up chatting to people on social media every day! It's easy to form new "best friends" when you spend THAT much time with each other but... Yeah, there's a but... Here comes politics to ruin the day!
Capitol Crimes
America was attacked by terrorist on January 6, 2021. They were NOT Muslims. They weren't radicalized by audio tapes of a Iman or a cleric in a mosque. They didn't make videos proclaiming Allah Akbar.
Thomas BishopPublished 3 years ago in The SwampAn Appreciation of Illegals
I believe that the idea in American politics about illegal / undocumented immigrants is wrong on both sides of the aisle, and it took putting myself into that situation to see how it really is.

A little bit about me Before you read this, please note that I’m not a political person. I’m not a person that gets worked up very often either. I’ve always had a live and let live approach to life, something that this country has always allowed me to have. But lately, I find myself absolutely disgusted with this country, it’s leaders and unfortunately it’s people.
Alistair KingsleyPublished 3 years ago in The SwampWe Need A Future Without COVID-19
People are dying everyday. I wish we lived in a world where no one died. COVID-19 has caused a lot of stress and I'm afraid it might even get bigger or mutate into a deadlier strain. I wish I was not a brutally pessimistic person. I believe that we, as a human-race, are far more capable of leading a more beautiful and safer life than what we're doing now.
Rajaroy Joseph AlphonsePublished 3 years ago in The Swamp8 Reasons January 6th was a Constitutional Failure.
While rioters were still in the Capitol building on January 6th, seeking to stop the results of an election process they disliked, people were rushing to proclaim "This is not who we are!" Well, sorry, but I think it might be exactly who we are--it’s just the latest example in the Trump era of saying the quiet part loud. This part of Trump’s appeal, he says the things he’s not supposed to--not because he’s a truth teller but because he’s shameless. He made the conservative movement realize that they didn’t have to pretend to love their fellow citizens, they could be shameless too. When those Trump supporters disliked losing, they weren’t going to be quiet about it out of respect for democratic norms, they made sure the whole world heard their displeasure.

Matthew DeBrouwerPublished 3 years ago in The SwampTrump lied- the election was not stolen
I had no idea that just 2 weeks away from the presidential inauguration this issue would still need to be addressed, yet here we are. The 2020 election was not rigged. Donald Trump knew he was going to lose so he made up this lie during the summer. He continued to repeat over and over and over until it was down in the souls of his followers. I recall my grandmother telling me as a child to never let anyone else furnish my brains. Trump supporters allowed a man who had lied every day of his time in office to convince them that a lie was true. He told them to stop the certification of Joe Biden as president and now 5 people are dead. Ignorant Americans, many who were critical of BLM acted like animals and committed federal crimes.
