Joe Biden has the most racially and religious diversity in his cabinet

The one group not represented are white Evangelicals who overwhelmingly supported Donald Trump.

Inauguration Day.

The Inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ushered in a new day in American history. If all goes according to plans those serving in the nation’s Capitol will look more like the citizens where make up this country than any time previously. It seemed as if overnight a fresh wind blew into the nation, but only 15 days prior to January 21, the White House was seized by domestic terroists. These Trump supporters attacked police causing one of them to die along with 4 other individuals. They climbed the walks, broke windows kicked in doors and erected a noose and chanted that they wanted to hang then Vice President Mike Pence.

They continued the desecration of the hallowed halls by smoking pot and also urinated and deficated in the building. The mob broke into offices and stole Government property and hunted for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Cabinet members as if they were prey. Americans saw a nightmare unfold right in front of their eyes. Donald Trump’s rhetoric led to Confederate flags being taken into the White House and in one video an American flag was replaced by a Trump flag. This was a nightmare on January 6, but oh what a difference 2 weeks makes. These mobsters wanted to stop the swearing in of Biden and Harris and prevent change from coming but change is here. They believed the lie that the election had been stolen and acted accordingly.

President Joe Biden made a campaign promise of diversity in his cabinet and he is doing his best to fulfill what he said he would do. Number 46 was disgusted with his predecessor’s winks and nods to white supremacists and the aftermath of Charlottesville. Trump was backed by an overwhelming majority of White evangelical support, in 2016 and they did not call out his anti-Semitic and anti-LBGTQ rhetoric. Number 45 also appointed many Evangelicals to his Cabinet. well beyond their demographic representation. These include Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.

Among that number were former secretaries such as Scott Pruitt, Rick Perry, and Jeff Sessions. With these picks came a rise in white nationalists and supremacists. The chanting in Charlottesville of “ Jews will not replace us” and the killing of George Floyd shocked the world. This led Biden to say to he would make changes if elected as the 46th president and he is off to a good start. Ironically Donald Trump ran in 2016 on a promise to his supporters to end immigration and build a boarder wall paid for by Mexico. The wall was never built but If all of President Biden’s nominees are confirmed, he will have made a good start in having the elected officials resemble the nation.

Dr. Vivek Murthy nominated for Attorney General.

Including Vice President Kamala Harris, the heads of 15 executive departments along with eight additional key positions will make history. This will be the most racially and ethnically diverse Cabinet ever in the United States and Biden supporters are grateful. Among the nominees are one Native American, three Asian Americans, four Hispanics and six African Americans. One half of these individuals are women which is also the most ever for females.

Regarding religion, a handful of those chosen by the President have not identified one way or the other regarding whether they have a belief system or not. There are two Hindus, two African American Baptists, five Jews, and eight Catholics. Joe and Jill Biden identify as Catholic, Kamala Harris is a black Baptist and her husband Doug Emhoff is Jewish. Gone are the days when men who identified as WASP’s (White Anglo Saxon Protestants) run the nation. It has been noted that white Evangelicals are absent from the Biden administration.

Deb Hyland the first Native American Secretary of the Interior

It was Evangelucals like Paula White, Franklin Graham, and Jerry Falwell Jr. who stood behind Donald Trump no matter what. Evangelicals voted again in 2020 in record numbers for Trump but he lost. White and televangelist Pat Robertson both said that God told them Trump would win a second term in office but this did not happen. Evangelicals were overwhelmingly supportive of the boarder wall and critical of the LBGTQ community. On Facebook a large number of people began saying that they did not identify with the Christian faith of the Evangelicals and consider them as extremists. It’s a no brained as to why they are missing from the current administration but diversity is within the order of the day.
