veteran
It's imperative to look up to and learn from army veterans; only then can we truly understand the sacrifices made by men and women in uniform.
Mickey Markoff , Air and Sea Shows, And Memorial Day
What do you think of when you hear the phrase ‘Memorial Day’? Chances are good that images of holiday sales, new mattresses, and cookouts may come to mind. Mickey Markoff, executive producer of the air and sea shows across South Florida, wants to change that.

To a Female Veteran, You did well. You were good enough. You were strong enough. You are still impressive. I know the struggles that you faced every day. Struggles that we still don’t talk about because we don’t share our stories. We are the quiet veterans. We don’t get the hats, the t-shirts, the acknowledgment. I know that it hurts- because we all gave something too.

INCOMING. INCOMING. INCOMING, said Giant Voice. PFC Tullis made himself small in the low-slung concrete bunker alongside the 105mm howitzer position on the eastern edge of the FOB and prayed Lord Jesus please get me out of this country alive.

I was asked about the 70’s. The 70’s. The longest decade. Every decade after I spent far quicker, with each accelerating more unkindly than the one before. A painfully true illusion. If it really is illusion.

My paternal grandfather, C. A. Baltimore, was amongst the elite class of forefront Belgian deep-sea divers in the early 1920s. A World War I Commercial Naval Diver that was trained in military bomb disposal. Otherwise known as an Ammunition Technician with core knowledge on how to safely neutralize munition planted deep within the sea beds often aimed to obliterate submarines and naval fleet. Though fascinated with such an underwater odyssey, it’s a running family rumor that he refused to wear the outlandishly heavy standard diving dress that was customary in that era, if he could avoid the custom. As much as he enjoyed the demands of his underwater duties with the Navy…he always had his heart set on being a free diver. He had awesome lung capacity and could hold his breath for up to 30 minutes without underwater apparatus while diving as deep as 150 feet in some of the coldest waters and that was his claim to fame.

1MAR2021; 1920, MON It's been a New York minute since my last post in the designated military community of this site, and like the living legend NaS (sic) said on "N.Y. State of Mind", off of his debut album from '94, "It's time...I don't know how to start this s**t" tho." I was the designated radio guy for my platoon for a hot minute and I suppose that that's as decent as any intro to a fairly random piece.

A black cloud of exhaust billowed over the sidewalk bench where she sat as the bus pulled away from the curb. It mirrored the cloud of disappointment that hung over her like a shroud. He wasn’t on the bus.

--February of 2015 With thoughts of my grandfather, I stood in the room of a place that was the equivalent of the Versailles for the elderly. I looked into the faces of generations of experiences, and instantly felt outclassed. Like a clumsy librarian tasked to oversee an archive bigger than herself. All there was to me was my notebook and an honest curiosity. I hoped that was enough. The Aegis assistant and my professor paired us off to begin the interviews. Where after introducing each resident, we would raise our hands for the individual who interested us.
Veterans United Home Loans
Is it a scam? Is the United Veterans Home Loans really worth the headache? I'll let you be the judge of that because I am going to be honest, not every other veteran out there is going to have the same experience as I have had.
Casey KellerPublished 3 years ago in ServeThe first year anniversary of retirement
In less than a week it is my year anniversary of my retirement. I went through the up’s and down’s of becoming a civilian. I was angry. I was humbled. I was lost. I was thrilled on the amount of time that I had on my hands. I was BORED! No one told me about the boredom. I knew that I would have time. Time to cook, to clean, to do chores, to hang out with the family, to watch shows on the T.V. I could be anything that I wanted to be. Be all that you can be….in the civilian world.

Soo-Jin Quinn paced the waiting room area feverishly as she counted down the time. She looked at the light above the door expecting it to cease its glow at any moment. She knew she still had three more long agonizing minutes until it was her turn, and it was torture.

“After all, if you have a chance of being shot or blown up any day, what threat is lung cancer?” Joe reasoned and dragged another puff on his Woodbine. He glanced up out of their hole; distant flashes of fire lit his eyes. Smoke that held the tang of scorched earth, burnt metal and hell, filled his nostrils.
