In the summer of 2020 I had the worst manic-psychotic episode of my 16 years dealing with Schizoaffective Disorder. I went from full blown manic to catatonic (the most severe symptom of depression). It happened in less than 72 hours, something that is theoretically impossible. My husband was faced with a terrible choice. He had to apply for temporary-immediate guardianship to allow him to consent to a treatment that I had told him I never wanted. ECT or Electroconvulsive Therapy was used for many years unethically in things like Gay Conversion Therapy. It was once famous for its controversy, perceived as brutal and is depicted in the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest as torture.

Delusional Parasitosis
In the year 2021 I had learned a lot about myself, I had experienced some sort of mental collapse. I was extremely lonely, exhausted, and lost. No one could save me, I had to get myself right on my own. So I made efforts, made a few appointments and did tons of research online about different symptoms and what my case could be so I could mention that to a doctor. I saw a psychiatrist and ended up with a prescription for methylphenidate. Apparently I was diagnosed with ADHD and from what I can tell it explains a lot about my behavior. So I went home with my prescription and took it the following evening before work. Suddenly I was able to focus on a task and get actual work done again.
Schizophrenia
This piece is about mental health awareness and the struggle many people face every single day. It is not meant as a diagnostic tool or to give any medical advice whatsoever. Every individual has their own story and their own treatment plan, so even if you see part of yourself in this piece, it's vital that you seek the help of a trained professional. It IS okay not to be okay.

I might be severely politically incorrect, but when I hear Martin Luther Jr's speech "I Have A Dream" I can't help applying it to my life.
The Schizophrenic MomPublished 2 years ago in PsycheMisconceptions about Schizophrenia
I have schizophrenia, and I am sick. Sick of stigma. It cripples me more than the disease, and that’s saying a lot. I’m tired of people with schizophrenia being thought of as violent, creepy, stupid, and incapable.

by: Dennis R. Humphreys Scientists have been studying the human mind for years. The one thing they found consistently, is that is an amazing result of evolution. Whether individual, or multiple brains acting as one, they can generate different outcomes than expected. They can increase occurrences when the odds dictate otherwise. When flipping a coin for heads or tails, normally you get a fifty, fifty chance for either coming up. When a person concentrates his attention on the outcome being heads the number recorded can be something more like fifty one percent heads, forty nine percent tails. It isn't a big difference but it's a measurable difference that demands attention. The power of the mind is not fully understood but the best example is what hypnosis is able to achieve... many times it isn't just measurable but there's a physical outcome in reality.

It was still dark outside. The wind was howling more than it usually did that June morning in Blighton Virgina. Michael woke up from the heat. The AC had kicked out some time in the middle of the night and he found himself drenched in a puddle of sweat. This coupled with the yellowing walls were an all too familiar scene. He would lay awake in bed for a good fifteen minutes before waking up to start his day and this morning was no exception. It wouldn’t be long before he’d hear his mom burst through the door with the same cutting speech as the day before. “You shouldn’t still be here.” followed by a cold stare. “At 28 years old, you should be out of this house, starting a family of your own. I don’t know where we went wrong with you, Michael.”

Sleep, that is all I want. just an endless slumber away from the world. Away from my physical body. It's now 2 am. Eyes wide open. Sleep please come. I get up to open my laptop. The light from the screen pierces through the darkness. I unlock the screen and stare into the bright void. Another attempt in getting my motivation back. Sleep should set in soon. I open a document and start to type out my plans. I try hard to focus but my mind keeps trailing to where sleep is. Eyes are baggy full of tired but not sleep. the body is sluggish but has no sleep.
