World champion Diego Maradona has died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Maradona's life was one of controversy.

His achievements on the football field have made him a hero to millions.

His private life, however, was much criticized.

There are many documentaries about such a legendary figure that show his life from different angles.

Maradona himself once said: "Only Kusturica's film is my film. Only he can penetrate my heart and capture the true course of my life, in its moments of glory and in its moments of decline."

The Kusturica film he is referring to is the 2008 documentary Maradona.

The film is more about Maradona's life after retirement.

In the film, Maradona looks into the camera and recalls some of the worst moments of his life.

Diego Maradona grew up poor.

He was one of eight children, and his father was the only worker.

As far as he can recall, they never went hungry, although there was sometimes more or less food on the table.

It wasn't until he was older that Maradona remembered his mother's "stomachache" whenever the food seemed inadequate.

In fact, it was an excuse for the mother to leave food for the children.

Maradona's life has been greatly improved by his talent for football.

During his playing career, Maradona played for many top teams and won many major championships.

In 1986, he finally realized his dream, leading Argentina to World Cup victory.

It was in this World Cup that a handball against England became one of the most controversial incidents in Maradona's career.

At his post-match press conference, Maradona called the goal "half the hand of God and half the head of Maradona."

Despite his worldwide criticism, Maradona has become a national hero in Argentina.

However, Maradona's success coincided with a gradual decline in his life.

In the film, there is a narrator:

It's like his football skills have reached an extreme

He's a hundred times better than anyone

His life had reached a different extreme

What is a mess

Facing director Kusturica, Maradona shared his drug-ruined life.

Among the many effects of drug use on his life, the one he most regrets is the distance from his family that the habit has caused.

According to Maradona, his ex-wife Claudia shares videos of their two daughters growing up with him.

And every time he saw these precious images, he would feel very guilty.

But no matter how guilty he feels, Maradona cannot go back.

He never spent a normal birthday with his two daughters.

Because when the party starts, he's gonna be into drugs.

Drugs not only destroyed Maradona's family life, but also his career.

picture

In the film, Maradona asks Kusturica, "Do you know what kind of player I would be if I didn't take drugs?"

He knew he could have done better than he did if he hadn't had the habit.

It was his mistake that robbed the world of a greater player.

The regret stuck with him for years after he retired.

In the film, Maradona also shares a near-death experience.

He was in intensive care with high blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat.

He described the experience as a black clot that prevented him from opening his eyes and being unable to escape.

It was a pretty scary feeling.

He thought he had already died once, and that it was a miracle he woke up.

Waking up, Maradona learned that his second daughter Gianna had been calling to him.

While in his coma, however, he heard nothing.

"I was born for football. I knew what was going to happen to me, but I never thought I'd get into drugs."

"There are still a lot of things that I'm very ashamed of today."

"People will say I'm better than I used to be, but they can't understand my heart."

"I know what I did wrong, but I can't fix it."

The documentary "Maradona" undermined his rainmaker side.

In Kusturica's lens, Maradona is more like an ordinary middle-aged man full of regret.
