In modern basketball history, the likes of Michael Jordan and lebron James have only won back-to-back MVPS, but there is one man who has held the top spot for three years in a row. He is not the first man in history, but he is good enough to stand up to them.

He still made his mark in a movement dominated by black men. He can't match Jordan in terms of power and impact, nor can he match James in terms of talent and exposure.

But he relied on that charming posture and beautiful shooting posture, in the hearts of countless fans branded an immortal imprint. Not only is he amazing in appearance, but if he is the first player in history, it might not be enough. But if he is the whitest man in the NBA, we can all agree that he is the NBA ambassador Larry Bird!

Hey! Hello, everyone! I'm the quarterback! Today I want to take you into the basketball days of Big Bird.

We all know Larry Bird as the face of the Celtics, but he's a Hoosier through and through. Not only was he born here, but he also served as the Pacers general manager after his retirement.

Larry Bird was born in West Barton, Indiana, on December 7, 1956. Although he was born to a white family, Byrd's family was not rich. On the contrary, he had a very poor childhood.

Byrd's family was one of the poorest in the poorest town at the time. Byrd had five brothers and sisters, and only two parents supported his family of eight.

His father, a former soldier, was wounded and discharged during the war, which also led to his tendency to drink and violence, which further threw the family into chaos.

In order to get away from these problems, Byrd put all his energy into sports. In those sports, Byrd loved basketball, but his attitude toward basketball at this time was only very interesting. He did not think that he could make a living from basketball.

Until one day, Bird found that basketball was no longer just a hobby for him. He seemed to be able to play basketball better and better, which made him decide to play basketball.

In 1972, when Byrd was 16, his mother couldn't stand his father's behavior and decided to divorce him, further destabilizing the already broken family.

With his father gone, Bird was able to focus more on basketball. After high school, Byrd attended the local Springs Valley High School and successfully joined the school basketball team.

He started showing off his talent in high school, and in his senior season, he averaged 31 points and 21 rebounds per game, and the Byrd name began to be noticed.

In fact, at first, Bird did not like the feeling of standing in the spotlight, unlike the future NBA king, Bird was a very introverted child, he was not good at communicating with others. At the same time, due to family reasons, he is also very resistant to the outside gaze.

In high school, he often skipped class because he didn't want to speak on stage, and even gave up playing for his team because of the huge crowds that came to the finals.

Of his bizarre behavior, Bird's mother said, "Larry is the hardest of the six kids!" But that's why he was able to succeed, because he put it all on basketball.

As a result, even though he did not want to be noticed, he was still seen by the public because of his outstanding ability. He even once complained to his coach when his deeds and photos appeared in the newspaper, "Why don't other teammates get reported like this?"

Byrd was already a basketball star, but he didn't want to live in the limelight. Byrd's performance on the court in high school won him an offer from the elite basketball schools.

But they had no idea that a little high school player could be so difficult!

"With his personality, he could easily be bullied in our school!" The bishop of Kentucky said of Larry Bird's character.

By the summer of 1974, schools were trying to recruit Bird, and the head coach of the University of Louisville paid him a visit.

If he beat Byrd, Byrd was asked to follow him on a tour of the University of Louisville. Byrd, predictably, won the shootaround so easily that the head coach ended up walking away.

At that time, Byrd already had a favorite university in his heart, that is Kentucky, which has cultivated countless talents. Before the University of Louisville coach personally visited, he could not let him visit the school.

But Kentucky Byrd took the initiative to visit. Byrd, accompanied by his high school coach and his family, traveled to Kentucky and met with the varsity coach. The Kentucky coach had seen Byrd play in high school, but he wasn't impressed.

According to his account, he tried to talk to Byrd, but Byrd didn't talk to him. After all this, Kentucky's coach was reluctant to offer Bird a scholarship.

The move left many Kentucky fans scratching their heads, thinking he was literally pushing out a talent, but the coach had a different perspective.

He didn't think Byrd's introverted personality was a good fit for Kentucky, where he was vulnerable to bullying, so for Byrd's sake he didn't come.

Indiana had an opportunity after he was rejected by Kentucky, and the coach had been to many games to see Byrd play. It was clear to him that Byrd was playing better than any other player on the court, so he had his eye on Byrd early on.

"If you want to convince Larry, you have to build a relationship with him," the coach said. He recruited three players to dine with Byrd and convince him to join Indiana.

But even so, Byrd still did not have a clear answer, finally under the urging of a number of friends and family, Byrd decided to join Indiana University.

After entering the university, Bird felt very unaccustomed to it, especially he was very introverted. When he came to the university stage, more people's attention was paid to him, which made him at a loss. After less than one month, Bird chose to drop out of school and go home.

Byrd returned home and enrolled in the small local Wood University, where he worked part-time as a mower and a cleaner.

Byrd later said that this was his happiest time, because he was carefree and free of pressure, and he gradually became more and more cheerful. But something happened that changed the course of Byrd's life forever.

One day, when he was enjoying his 18th birthday, his father called him and told him to come home in the evening. When Byrd arrived home, all he saw was his father's cold body. Byrd's father suffered from a long history of physical and psychological trauma, as well as a previous divorce, which led him to take his own life.

His father's behavior was the main cause of the family split, but Bird's love for his father was real. His father's death still caused him a great blow, and he began to lose his mind. He didn't know what he was going to do.

The head coach had been trying to get Byrd back after he left Indiana. When he learned of Byrd's situation, he drove to Byrd's house. At first Byrd didn't want to say anything.

Finally, his family persuaded him to talk to him, but Bird still did not want to go back to school, and the coach simply told him: "If you can go to college, you will be a great basketball player!" But Byrd simply ended the conversation without saying a word.

After that, Indiana approached Bird several times, but still did not get a positive answer, which made them a little discouraged, and even suspected that Bird had given up on basketball.

At the time, people thought this white kid had no interest in basketball, so why waste our time on him? Just when it was thought Byrd's basketball was coming to an end, the Indiana assistant didn't give up.

He continued to visit Bird every day, and it was his persistence that led to Larry Bird's great basketball career!

"Are you all here to come second?" He is the man who put two MJ's down, and the NBA's best faker, but he almost couldn't continue to play because of his introverted character.

Then, in 1976, after much persuasion from the Indiana bishop, Byrd was persuaded to go on to Indiana, and the Hoosiers got the star they wanted.

After coming to this place for the second time, this time Bird did not choose to escape. He put his heart and soul into basketball, and even after almost a year at home, he still showed a strong force in the NCAA tournament.

That year, Byrd averaged 32.8 points and 13.3 rebounds, and over the next two seasons, Byrd continued to dominate the NCAA field with high efficiency. Byrd has become an Indiana University icon.

Auerbach took Bird with the No. 6 pick in the 1978 draft. The Celtics thought Bird had NBA talent, so they tried to persuade him to skip his senior year, but Bird rejected the offer and decided to play in the NCAA.
