“This is the story of a girl who cried a river and drown the whole world.” That is a line from “Story of a Girl” by 3 Doors Down. It comes in handy in this twisted, crooked, and crazy tale of a girl named Ashley Batali. This tale is a never ending tale of weird beginnings. So, our tale begins in a small town named Bear, Delaware. If you have a weak stomach or wish for a happy go lucky story close this book, put it down, and walk away. If not, let us begin this journey down memory lane.

No one ever knew what was going to happen, not even Ashley herself. She was about 15 and 5’4’’. Dark brown hair, mocha skin color, pretty face, cheerleader, and very popular. No guy thought wrong about her. She aspired to be a model and wanted everything that went along with it. Her exotic eyes were enticing and had freckles around them. They were green, in a Mexican and Italian person that was rare. Did I mention she was captain of the squad and had a 3.5 grade point average? Ashley Batali was not your typical high school sophomore. She made it her destiny to break the barrier of the typical cheerleading captain. She wanted to be like Jaslene, the winner of America’s Next Top Model cycle 8. Her best friend and “manager” Michelle Rodriquez always backed her up. She was the talk of all the talent shows and fashion shows. With her rendition of Selena’s “Como La Flor” she received standing ovations from everyone.

Everyone knew where to find Ashley and Michelle if it wasn’t at a competition, it was where they could get their favorite food. You would have thought they were sisters separated at birth. They loved anything Italian or Mexican especially manicotti or enchiladas. But, behind this pretty face was a very disturbing family life. Her mother Elena was the nicest person in the world. She spoiled Ashley and supported her in every way she could. Her father was the worst. Jacob was his name and he abused Elena in front of Ashley and was an alcoholic. He was also a drug addict. Their house was a safe haven for drugs addicts in the area. No one ever knew because Ashley’s reputation was everything to her. She feared if this got out she would be kicked off the squad and her girls meant everything to her.

She saw her dad using every day and knew one day it got out of hand. He was pushing her to try them and he knew that she didn’t like drugs. Seeing all the addicts in out of the house wasn’t very comforting. She finally moved in with her “manager” Michelle. She had to go home to get some things but that was when Ashley first tried alcohol. It didn’t have a big hold on her at all.

Until one day it went awry. She became very drawn to drugs and alcohol. It also became so caught up with her. She didn’t know what to do or say. But she knew that she didn’t care what people said or did. Ashley didn’t even care for herself so much of an ounce. She didn’t take anything to hear that anyone said. Ashley could’ve been a model but all the while she wasn’t concerned about what could’ve been. The drugs kept the biggest hold on her until she decided it was time for her to get help.

Does she ever get help? Will she continue down a path of destruction? Stay tuned to find out.
