FDA Approved Ways to Utilize CBD For Your Health

While there are many producers of cannabidiol or CBD products that make claims to help with a variety of health concerns, the only FDA approved product that contains CBD is Epidiolex, a product that shows great promise as a treatment for serious seizure disorders.

Anecdotal Evidence Abounds

Until the Farm Bill of 2018 legalizing the use of hemp products, research and testing on CBD products have been challenging to set up. The criminalization of the product made it hard to find scientists and laboratories to process and work with the product.

However, anecdotal evidence on the benefits of CBD abounds. Many users have found relief for conditions from

chronic nerve pain

severe anxiety

mild depression

Many users have also been able to break away from opioid use for pain and reduce the risk of addiction to these risky medications. CBD users are encouraged to dose with extreme care and to monitor their own conditions after that first small dose. As many CBD users apply the product before bed to help them manage anxiety and insomnia, this initial dosing regimen is even more important.

Adult Use Only Recommended

Because the research is limited, many CBD producers are recommending that these products be used only on adults. While Epidiolex is approved for children age 1 and up, other forms of CBD are not yet approved for children. Additionally, while the anecdotal evidence shows that the product is helpful for other conditions, the FDA is not recommending the use of CBD for any conditions other than seizures.

Importantly, while the FDA has not approved CBD for any condition besides seizures, it can not ban or regulate the product. If an adult chooses to buy and use CBD products, it's the responsibility of the buyer to find organic or otherwise certified products for safe application, ingestion, or vaping.

Dosage Methods Matter

There are several ways to self-medicate with CBD products. You can use the product directly in a carrier oil under the tongue, or invest in tools such as the best CCell vapes to vape or inhale the product and get it directly into the lungs and quickly into the bloodstream.

It should be noted that these methods of dosing include carrier oils. When a CBD user tries a new dose, either sublingually or via a vape pen, it's a good idea to start with only a small dose to confirm there is no reaction to the carrier oil. CBD is rarely related to an allergic response, but some users do experience irritation from specific carrier oils.

There are many CBD edibles on the market, including gummies bound with other products, such as melatonin for sleep or even Vitamins. In addition, the liquid CBD products that are taken sublingually can be dropped into smoothies, coffee, and tea. Be aware that an edible form of CBD will not enter the bloodstream as quickly as a sublingual dose or a vaped dose.

Finally, many people have had good luck with CBD topicals. These products are applied to the skin over sore joints and stiff muscles. These products can be preemptive, such as before a long hike or a night of dancing, or used the day after to reduce pain.

Moving Forward

It should be noted that while CBD products have not gained FDA approval for many of the conditions they're currently being used for, to great effect according to many of the clients, there are other chemicals from the cannabis plant that is approved for use for other conditions.

Marinol and Syndros are both used for extreme weight loss and wasting in AIDS patients. While the effective compounds in these products are synthetic, they're chemically based on THC or tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is the chemical compound in the cannabis plant that causes a euphoric disconnection, or a sense of being "high" commonly felt by those who smoke cannabis.

The process to get any medication approved by the FDA is time-intensive and can be costly. As many CBD producers and retailers are not large organizations, the testing process can be quite costly, which can also delay FDA approval. For anyone who suffers from a chronic condition, the use of CBD should be undertaken slowly. Small doses and careful monitoring of your own reaction will help you understand the product and method that you can use for best personal results.
