One of the most debated questions nowadays is whether you should or shouldn’t smoke weed. And perhaps we are not the ones who should tell you what you should do, but you should still know which countries you can smoke if you want to, and not into any trouble. Some say it’s super healthy, others say it’s not, but one thing’s for certain—the people who smoke weed, really love smoking it. However, it’s still illegal in most countries in the world, and even though you might disagree with this and hashtagging all of your posts with #LegalizeIt, the truth is that we really have to pay attention where and when we’re smoking. So, behold the countries that have won the 4/20 award as it’s quite legal (or only possible but still illegal) to smoke there:

Canada

Recreational marijuana was legalized in Canada in 2018, and this is yet another reason why Canada is great. You can also be a grower as you will get licensed by the federal government. However, it’s the individual provinces that determine how the products get distributed and sold. Even though it’s legal to smoke pot here, it isn’t heavily advertised. The government will sign off, but definitely not promote.

Nevada

The United States might be the land of dreams to some, but it’s definitely not for pot smokers, as smoking weed is not quite legal. However, Americans can still use medical marijuana, as there are states and cities where it’s allowed, such as California and Las Vegas. So, if you really want the night of your life, you should definitely hit Nevada, go to a casino and top the whole thing off by enjoying some medical marijuana in Las Vegas. Not only is it super healthy, but you will love the whole Las Vegas experience even more!

The Netherlands

Simply ask any European about the country that they would love to visit the most, all of them will say The Netherlands. More specifically, they really like Amsterdam, as it’s the most popular city in Europe that legalized marijuana. Not only are you able to smoke pot in the streets, you can also hit one of the many coffee places in the city, buy a joint, sit there, smoke it, and then continue to experience the city. It’s definitely a very unique country that you have to visit at least once in your lifetime. Pay attention though as smoking weed in Amsterdam is not legal everywhere—there are restaurants where it’s expressly prohibited. However, you can always go outside, stand on the pavement, smoke your joint and return.

Jamaica

It might not be the most appropriate thing, but come on—we all associate Jamaica with weed, Reggae music, and Bob Marley. However, even though this country has a rich history of promoting the recreational use of cannabis, it was in 2015 that the actual use was decriminalized. The possibility of cultivating and distributing cannabis in Jamaica is also possible, which makes the mecca for everyone who’s into 4/20ing.

Uruguay

Something very unusual happened in 2013. Namely, Uruguay became the first country in the world to completely legalize cannabis. Not only did this destroy the country’s powerful drug cartels, but it also turned it into a country where you can smoke weed wherever you want. You can also grow up to six plants in the comfort of your own home—and you don’t need a medical marijuana card to do so. The price of marijuana is so low at the moment that everyone can afford it.

Portugal

Portugal is a European country which decriminalized all drugs in 2001, which means it’s one of the countries with the most relaxed weed laws. The story behind this is a very sad one. Namely, since the 80s, Portugal has struggled with addiction, where, at one point, 1 in 10 people were addicted to heroin. The punishments for possession today range from a fine to addiction treatment. However, even though it has lax rules on marijuana consumption, it’s still illegal to grow or sell it.

Spain

Spain is not only the land of matadors and beautiful seaside; it’s also a place where you can smoke marijuana at a club. Yes, in 2017, some of Spain’s most famous smoking clubs became fully legalized in Catalonia. This means that you can smoke here all you want without facing any fines or repercussions.

The Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is yet another European country that tolerates the recreational use of marijuana. Medical usage has been legal for 6 years and possession is decriminalized for amounts up to 15 grams, which is more than enough for the recreational use. However, bear in mind that weed here can be quite expensive, mostly because everything is imported.

Trying to find a place for your next holiday where you can enjoy some puffing? Choose any option from the list and you’ll most definitely have the time of your life. If you’re against smoking marijuana, you can also hit these countries as they really have so many other things to offer. Marijuana is just one, but a very important one if you’re into it!
