Would You See Me?
If We Saw one Another From The Inside Out
Would you see me?
If my childhood scars were seen on my skin instead of buried deep within.
If I wore the weight of my burdens and fears as if they were rolls around my waist.
If my anxious worry were bags under my eyes and weathered wrinkles on my face.
If my intellect were what hung between my legs.
If my broken and beaten heart was not hidden beneath my breasts.
Would you see me?
Too often we fail to see beyond that first breath and decide to project rather than protect. We wear masks literally and figuratively, rejecting our similarities, rather than accept our differences are few. But if we look from the inside out, we may just see each other as we are. With every crack and every flaw, strewn with gold and silver, built stronger with every break and know that we are seen.
