Pen of Gold, Words of Soul

Her father received a golden pen,

with it, he would write night and day,

He could make his words come out to play,

He composed poems by the score and dozen,

Stories that were warm, interesting, and buzzing,

Plays that would make an audience scream in fright,

Or laugh with happiness and pure delight.

The writer’s articles would make people gasp in wonder,

How could he craft his words without making a blunder?

As the years went by, the gold paint faded on the pen,

Until it was pale and white in the bright moonlight.

Still, Janet’s father called it his golden pen,

He found the perfect refills to slip them in,

It was always ready and filled with ink,

He made sure that it would never end in a blink.

The pen of gold was her father’s most precious tool,

With the words of power, he wrote from it,

He sent his three daughters to school,

He nurtured his wife and his family,

Making sure that they were never hungry.

After their father passed away,

His words would not come out to play,

As night turns to day and dusk to dawn,

As spring moves to summer and autumn to winter,

The writer’s three grandchildren were born.

The young grandson took up the pen,

He looked at the silver body, glinting in the rising sun.

“Keep away that golden pen, my son,

That was your grandfather’s precious pen,

with it, he would make words come alive on a page,

Creating stories to fill a reader with joy, happiness, or rage.”

“But, Mummy this is a silver pen,” said her young and puzzled son.

“It will always be the golden pen for our family legacy

Because with that simple pen of faded gold,

Your grandfather nurtured his family lovingly.

The words he wrote with that pen of gold,

Could make a fortune he was told,

They were words of the soul from a pen of gold.

So he crafted his words and polished them well,

Until every piece of work was a masterpiece that would sell.

This pen of gold is your grandfather's legacy,

Always cherish and treasure it over land and sea.

It is more precious my son, as the words you write,

Will give you comfort, and peace through any stormy night.”
