Atlas Cedar dripping silver,
Boulders draped in Lichen,
Crispy leaves now sodden,
Dancing mist o’er treetop pillar.
Earthen mounds and tiny ponds,
Fern palaces verdant chartreuse,
Granite cliff-tops tower above
Hewn out paths for feet to trod.
Island in swollen azure creek,
Just short of full submersion,
Knotty Pine against rushing water
Lifts outstretched arms to air relief.
Mossy boulders vibrant musky,
Noisy woodpecker works on bark,
On and on the trail leads deeper,
Pine-cones strewn; landscape brushy.
Quivering raindrop gives up; jumps,
Relinquishing its life on a limb,
So finite the things of this earth,
Truly we only pass here once.
Under this ethereal canopy
Vibrant tangerine mushrooms
Weave around the trunk, enveloping
X’s and O’s carved in ancient tree,
Young lovers from another time, their
Zeal equal to the passage of eternity.
