#smoothpoetrychallenge

i hope the change was seamless
from your last breath
to the next.
while your eyes
opened to new wonders,
i was left here
picking up what's left.
i miss you
and i hate it
that you wouldn't
let me follow;
cross that plane,
slip the shackles,
let worldly burdens
drift and go.
/
spread across horizons,
slung down valleys
and pushed up peaks
by stormy gales,
my love wanders
near and far
searching, always searching
for you, to no avail
because the one it's
pining for with endless
nagging grief
is the one that's
no longer kept
on this green earth,
death, a shameless thief.
/
it's been years and days
and hours since
i felt my useless
heart begin to seize
as you took the
very best of me
despite my endless
words and pleas.
so, i'll plant a field of flowers
to match the wildness
in my soul,
and hope it's the last
my eyes will see
before i join you,
then i'll finally
be whole.
